"LONDON—A military jet taking part in a British air show crashed into a busy main road, killing seven people and injuring more than a dozen others, police said Saturday.

The Hawker Hunter fighter jet, which was participating in the Shoreham Airshow near Brighton in southern England, hit several vehicles on a nearby road as it crashed Saturday afternoon. Witnesses told local TV that the jet appeared to have crashed when it failed to pull out of a loop manoeuvre.

West Sussex Police said seven died at the scene and one patient with life-threatening injuries was taken to the hospital. A further 14 people were treated for minor injuries".

"He'd gone up into a loop and as he was coming out of the loop I just thought, you're too low, you're too low, pull up. And he flew straight into the ground either on or very close to the A27, which runs past the airport," Jones said.

The force said all the casualties were believed to have occurred on the road, and no one on the airfield was believed injured. It was not yet known whether the jet pilot was able to eject or not."

"It is the second incident at the Shoreham Airshow in recent years.

In September 2007 James Bond stuntman Brian Brown, 49, died when he crashed a World War Two Hurricane after carrying out an unplanned barrel roll at a re-enactment of the Battle of Britain."

Well, this is the second plane crash. Wasn't there a poster who had a dream about 3?

News may grow worse. Think I heard on the radio a Daimler was hit that was due to pick up a bride, and it's not certain if she was in the car or not?

Police have received around 40 calls from people concerned about missing relatives.

More bodies may be found after a vintage jet crashed, killing seven people, while performing at an air show in West Sussex, police have said..."It is possible that tonight [Saturday] and tomorrow we are going to find more bodies at the scene," said Supt Jane Derrick of Sussex Police.

Unfortunate coincidence.

"BERLIN -- At least one person died when two small planes collided in the air and crashed at an airshow in northern Switzerland on Sunday, police said.

The two planes were part of a formation of three and they crashed just before 11:30 local time after they touched each other in the air, according to Meinrad Stoecklin, a spokesman for police in Basel-Landschaft."

"Air show crash: Police say 11 people are 'highly likely to be dead'"

" (CNN)A day after a relic military jet plunged from the sky and crashed onto a busy UK highway, authorities searched Sunday for more possible victims.

Sussex police announced at a press conference that they have the names of 11 people whom they are treating as "highly likely" to be dead. The identification process was a "technical" one that requires the help of the victims' next of kin. Earlier, they said seven people had been killed.

The police added that they are keeping an open mind about the possibility of additional fatalities."

Whatever the final cause of this tragic accident is determined to be - one thing that can be said for sure is that it was absolutely reckless for the pilot to perform such a risky low level maneuver over a populated area. I notice that the town is right on the English channel and I think in future they should move the airshow to over water so that the lives of civilians on the ground will not be put at risk.

It was Skibaboo who had the dream about 3 plane crashes! I thanked her sarcastically as was just about to jet off to Greece (made it here safely, Skibs ☀️)

I'm sure it's not unusual to get three or more small plane crashes within a short period of time.

Sussex police have warned the death toll may reach 20 as they expect to find more remains now the fuselage has been lifted by a crane.

The pilot remains in a medically-induced coma and his family have expressed their sorrow and prayers for all the victims.

Looking at the wreckage, it's hard to believe the pilot survived. I think that jet may be equipped with an ejector seat though?

Welcome to Ws. busybee28!
Very sorry for the tragedy in your community, thank goodness your husband is ok.

I'm local too busybee. A family member of mine was working alongside the A27 just above the crash site and watched/filmed the whole thing.

Good post. It still does remind me of how there is an inherent risk to these shows. I was watching an air show in Chicago years ago, and I think it was post-911, but it was still on my mind that even though much of the action was over Lake Michigan, considering the speed of the average aircraft, there was still a risk to the city should a mechanical accident occur. Nonetheless, it had to have been safer than this UK show.
