Bristol, UK-based artist Banksy who is best known for painting street walls, has turned his artistic hand to opening a temporary theme park called Dismaland.
As the name suggests, it's a dismal place (in a disused outdoor pool) in the slightly run-down coastal resort of Weston-super-Mare and includes installations from other leading artists as well as Banksy.
The bitterly satirical theme park, which is billed as not suitable for children, nevertheless has a booth offering kids pocketmoney loans at 5,000 per cent interest. Attractions also include a deceased princess and horses in a carriage surrounded by paparazzi, rude staff selling black balloons stating 'I am an imbecile', a woman being mobbed by hungry seagulls and a killer whale jumping out of a toilet into a kiddie pool.
The park was created under strict secrecy but the day tickets went on sale the website collapsed under the weight of 6 million hits per minute. On opening day, the British weather joined in the gloomy fun by pouring with rain along with train operators who went on strike.
The park will be open for five weeks.
