I recently got the shocking news that a friend's sister has been murdered. Her name is Jackie Porreca. She lived and worked in Colonie, NY which is a town just outside Albany.

She was working alone at a hair salon called Recycled Salon when someone came in and stabbed her brutally in the neck. She succumbed to her injuries 2 days later.

I never met Jackie, and am not familiar with the area. However her surviving sibling sent me a FB post from a PI firm that has presumably been retained to help with the search. They are called East Coast Investigations and are on Facebook. I was not able to link the post directly, however, this is the crux of what they are posting.

If anyone has any info, please contact the Colonie police -- If there is anyone not comfortable talking with the police for whatever reason, including anonymity, please contact the private investigators. They have a hotline set up (both contact numbers are BBM below).

Sincere thanks for taking a look.

The department released a sketch of a man observed in the area of the Reycled Salon on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 21.The man is described as: white male, in his 20’s or 30’s, thin build, blond hair, and blue eyes. He was wearing jeans and a white long sleeve t-shirt with 3 or 4 buttons down the middle, police said.

The man was observed by a witness walking south on Russell Road before the incident at 52 Sand Creek Rd. around 4:30 p.m. and then he was seen again heading north on Russell Road shortly before hearing the responding emergency vehicles, authorities said, noting that he was seen headed toward the salon and then heading away from the salon.

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – More than a week after a local barber was stabbed at a Colonie salon, her sister is asking for anyone with information to come forward.
On August 21, Jackie Porreca was fatally stabbed while working alone at the Recycled Salon on Sand Creek Road in Colonie. A week and a half later, investigators still do not have a suspect.
“Every day you wake up hoping today’s the day,” Porreca’s sister, Janeah Rosecrans, said. “You know…you get that call, ‘We have him,’ and it doesn’t come.”

Police said no murder weapon was found and some money was stolen, but there’s no clear indication that theft was a motive. Authorities also said there’s a lack of physical evidence and a person of interest.

Michael Chmieleski, 23, and Sean Moreland, 32, are scheduled to be arraigned by state Supreme Court Judge Thomas Breslin on murder charges on Wednesday.
---
An Albany County grand jury on Friday indicted both men — Chmielewski on charges of first- and second-degree murder, robbery and burglary; and Moreland on charges of second-degree murder, robbery, burglary and hindering prosecution.

Moreland, who has run a construction business, has past arrests that include drug possession. Chmielewski — the recipient of a President's Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence in 2010 from Colonie Central High School — has never been arrested as an adult, police said.

Sean Moreland and Michael Chmielewski are charged with attacking Jackie Porreca in the salon where she worked last summer. Police say it was Chmielewski who stabbed Porreca in the neck and robbed her of several hundred dollars so the two defendants could fuel their heroin habit. Moreland, police say, was the get away driver...

The judge is considering what evidence can be used in court once the case goes to trial...

The attorneys on both sides will reconvene next month, although no trial date has been set.

Getaway driver pleads guilty in Porreca murder

---
In August 2015, Sean Moreland and Michael Chmielewski, 24, both of Colonie, went to the Recycled Salon at 52 Sand Creek Road in Colonie meaning to rob the business, according to police.

Chmielewski admitted to stabbing Jacquelyn Porreca during the robbery, according to the DA’s office. She died at Albany Medical Center two days later from her wounds.

Chmielewski pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, a class A-1 felony, Sept. 6, and faces 22 years to life in prison for the crime.

Moreland is facing two to six years in state prison for his role in the murder, but the sentence will run concurrently with an eight-year jail term he is already serving for an unrelated burglary, according to the DA’s office.

Police have said Chmielewski stole between $500 and $800 to buy heroin after attacking Porreca.

Albany County District Attorney spokeswoman Cecilia Walsh had said Chmielewski admitted to being high on heroin while committing the crimes.
