"It is unknown at this point if the remains are male or female, but they appear to be adult human remains," Capt. Van Jackson of Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

Some deteriorated articles of clothing were located in close proximity to the scene, Jackson said.

"It is also unknown exactly how long the remains have been in the area, but it appears that they have been there for an extended period of time due to their condition at time of discovery," he said.

“It’s hunting tracks on the other side of the creek and we hunt there. It’s pretty well hunted during the winter time and stuff but it’s pretty secluded during the summer,” says Britton.

Off to read these links. Thank you bessie for posting them. I truly appreciate your hard work.

This man has been identified as Jeffery Michael Sharrit. The death has been ruled a homicide. There is a picture of Jeffery at the link . I've also included a link from 2014 about an arrest warrant that was issued for him, that includes a clearer picture. He was white, and not black or bi-racial as initially published, which may have delayed identification....

Human remains found in 2015 identified; homicide suspected

Human skeletal remains of a suspected murder victim found during September 2015 in a remote wooded area in Lee County were identified Monday after a DNA profile found a match.

The victim is Jeffery Michael Sharritt, 35, of Phenix City, according to authorities, and his death remains under investigation.

Sharritt was last seen in July of 2014, but he was never reported missing, according to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones. The victim was unemployed at the time.

News Three spoke with Sharritt’s mother. She said she does not care how long it takes- she wants to know who killed her son and why. She also said she wants that person punished to the fullest.

Sharritt’s mother also told News Three that they have not heard from Sharritt’s wife since July 2014, which is the same time Jeffrey Sharritt was last seen. Sheriff Jones said they are looking into the circumstances of Sharritt’s wife. He added that they are working with area agencies to learn more.

[h=1]UPDATE: Authorities searching for wife of man whose remains were identified Monday[/h]
A day after identifying the remains of a suspected murder victim, authorities are now looking for the man's wife.

"We'd like to speak with her, but we don't know her whereabouts," said Sheriff Jay Jones with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Jeffery Michael Sharritt, 35, of Phenix City, was identified Monday after a DNA profile found a match to skeletal remains found in Lee County in September 2015. Sharitt was last seen July of 2014, but was never reported missing.
Jones said Tuesday that Sharritt's wife, Kristi, has a similar story. He believes she was last seen around the summer of 2014. Kristi Sharitt was also never reported missing.

[h=1]Sister of Kristi Sharritt files missing persons report[/h]
The sister of Kristi Nicole Sharritt filed a report with the Phenix City Police Department on Tuesday, Capt. George Staudinger confirmed Thursday. She also provided investigators with a photo of the missing woman and said she has not seen her since June 2014, according to the official report.

Sharritt’s husband, Jeffery Michael Sharritt, had been missing since late July 2014, but no report was filed for him, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said. When Jeffery Sharritt’s bones were identified this week, detectives tried to locate relatives.

“(Lee County) Capt. Van Jackson and his investigators talked to them and found family members had not heard from Kristi either,” Staudinger said. “I asked if the family would come to us and officially report her missing.

“It’s kind of unusual that they’ve been missing for so long,” continued Staudinger, who described the couple’s relationship with relatives as “strange.” He said that most family members of Kristi Sharritt, whose maiden name was Vance, live in Florida and were not in frequent contact with her.
