Details of Disappearance
Markey was last seen in Oneida, New York on January 10, 1993. She got into an altercation with her girlfriend of several years at a bar in the vicinity of Phelps Street that day. Markey had apparently been seeing a man, and her girlfriend confronted them together at the bar. They argued, and Markey and her girlfriend left together. Their landlord saw them go into the apartment they shared in the 400 block of Elizabeth Street. Markey has never been heard from again. She carried a leather pocketbook at the time of her disappearance.

Markey took no other personal belongings with her and she never picked up her last paychecks from either of her two jobs, one of which was at the Oneida Ltd. factory's knife division. She resided in the 400 block of Elizabeth Street in Oneida at the time of her disappearance. Markey's boyfriend was questioned and ruled out as a suspect, but her girlfriend is considered a person of interest in the case. The two women had apparently had a troubled relationship for the past four or five years.

Markey had several run-ins with the law prior to her disappearance, but her father said she'd been doing well in the three or four years before she vanished and had completed college. Although there is no hard evidence of foul play, authorities consider her disappearance suspicious. No one has been charged in connection with Markey's disappearance; her case remains unsolved.

Christine Markey’s 1993 disappearance continues to haunt family

Police are still investigating a 22-year-old unsolved case, the 1993 disappearance of Christine Markey, who was 23 years old when she was last seen by friends and family.

According to police, Mailloux last saw Markey on Jan. 9, when they walked to a bar on Phelps Street in Oneida. Taber allegedly pulled up in a car and picked Markey up.

Through the years, Mailloux and Taber have been people of interest in the case, Meeker says, but no charges have ever been filed.

She said her family scoured the area looking for signs of Markey for years after she disappeared, and have never given up hope that the case would be resolved.

“We just want a body,” Dowling said, emphasizing the family’s wish for closure.

Dowling says that to this day, people still contact her with tips about the case.

“It kills my parents,” she said. “Every week we talk about Christine.”

Christine and Taber were seen going in their apartment in the early morning of the 10th. This was the last time Christine was seen.

On January 10, Tracey Taber and her father, Mike Taber, were seen moving boxes from the apartment that Tracey and Christine shared. I wonder what the explanation for moving the boxes was. Was it Christine's stuff or was Christine's body in there.

I feel this case is not going to be solved until they find her remains. The female POI died in 2018. Tracy L. Taber | Dagon Funeral Home
