DETROIT -
Two Detroit EMS workers were seriously injured Tuesday when they were attacked by a man with a box cutter near the Neighborhood Service Organization in the 3400 block of 3rd Street.

A woman near the NSO building reported a sprained ankle and the two EMS workers worked on her across the street. When the crew determined that the woman wouldn't be transported in the rig, a man she was with became enraged and pulled out a weapon.

While the attacker stabbed and slashed EMT Alfredo Rojas, 25, EMT Kelly Adams, 49, came to his aid. The attacker then stabbed and slashed Adams, according to Interim Executive Fire Commissioner Eric Jones...

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene westbound on Peterboro Street. There is no other suspect information at this time, according to Jones. The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. and the attack was not caught on surveillance video because it happened across the street where the cameras don't cover.

A description of the attacker would be helpful as it seems he is a very dangerous individual! Prayers for the injured EMT's.

Man Sought in 'Horrific' Stabbing Attack on Two Detroit EMTs

by The Associated Press

DETROIT — A man stabbed and slashed two Detroit emergency medical technicians early Tuesday, leaving them with "horrific" injuries before he fled the scene, a fire department official said.

The attack happened at around 12:30 a.m., interim Fire Commissioner Eric Jones told reporters. They had responded to a 911 call and were treating a woman for an injured ankle when a man attacked one of the EMTs, he said...

7 Action News has learned that police have a suspect in custody in the attack on two Detroit EMS workers.

Sources are saying he was taken into custody a short time ago at Whitcomb and Fenkell on the west side. The suspect is also wanted for a 2006 murder, as well as in a Criminal Sexual Conduct case.

So thankful the suspect is now in custody. He should've been locked away a long time ago. I wonder why the woman is also in custody. Was her reported injury a set-up for the attack? Or is the woman a victim of domestic abuse and is now in protective custody? But why would that be necessary if the one who poses a threat to her is behind bars, unless he is a gang member?

Hoping the 2 EMS workers recover quickly and fully.

The conditions of two emergency medical technicians who, authorities say, were attacked Tuesday by a man wielding a razor-sharp object have improved.

Kelly Adams, 49, is in fair condition and Alfredo Rojas, 25, is in good condition, said Ruth Kremer, a spokeswoman for Detroit Receiving Hospital, on Wednesday.

The two were listed in serious condition Tuesday evening...

Late Tuesday, police took into custody a man suspected of attacking Adams and Rojas. He was found in the Whitcomb and Fenkell area, officials said.

And the woman, who Adams and Rojas were called to help initially, also was arrested. She fled with the man after the attack, police said. Their relationship was unclear...

I agree Bette. Why the heck wasn't this monster in jail? He's been walking around for 10 years after his previous horrific crimes. SMH I'm afraid the EMT's that he attack will have daily reminders of their attacker. He is said to have slashed their faces. I can't imagine being reminded of the attack every time I looked in the mirror. I'm so glad they survived and seem to be on the road to recovery.

Makes me wonder how many other people that have been charged with murder are walking the streets and LE is not even looking for them.

It seems LE waits till another arrest to pickup people that have warrants.

How about being proactive and looking for murderers.

I am glad that idiot fled with a woman who had a twisted ankle. :giggle:

The man was with the woman, surely she should provide the name of the slasher. Is this another "I didn't see anything"," I didn't hear anything", "I don"t know anything" type of of witnesses?

I don't know if the female "victim" provided LE with the perp's name, but commenters on media sites identified the perp hours before he was known to the public.

Police: EMT stabbing suspect flew ‘under the radar’

8:21 p.m. EDT October 21, 2015

In a world where technology allows police to keep close tabs on suspects, Michael Montgomery avoided detection for his alleged violent crimes going back more than a decade, despite detectives having his DNA when he was arrested in January.

Montgomery, 30, was arrested Tuesday night, a day after police believe he stabbed two Detroit paramedics who were responding to an emergency call in the Cass Corridor. He was arraigned Wednesday for unrelated sexual assaults from 2005 and 2006, the latter incident ending in a fatal stabbing.

Police had taken Montgomery’s DNA from the earlier crime scenes, but did not know who it belonged to, Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steven Dolunt said.

“He’s been flying under the radar,” he said...

The Detroit News 10:28 a.m. EDT October 22, 2015

A 30-year-old Detroit man who was arrested Tuesday night in connection with the stabbing attack on two Detroit first responders is to be formally arraigned for a second time this week for unrelated crimes.

Michael Montgomery, who was also arraigned via video conference Wednesday in 36th District Court for a 2006 sexual assault and fatal stabbing, is due back in court for a 2005 sexual assault. Magistrate Laura Echartea entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf on Wednesday. She also ordered Montgomery held without bond...
