An estranged husband who arranged to have his toddler stepson murdered had a life insurance policy on the slain Tennessee boy, documents revealed Monday.

David Wi, 23, shows up as the beneficiary on policies for Alicia Bankston, her 2-year old son Joseph Bankston and the couple’s 1-year-old girl, according to arrest documents cited by The Leaf-Chronicle of Clarksville.

Wi, a soldier at nearby Fort Campbell, was arrested Friday and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit homicide, according to the Clarksville Police Department.

Investigators believe he conspired with another Fort Campbell soldier, Zackery Alexander, 21, in the Oct. 4 shooting of the toddler and his wife’s boyfriend - Fort Campbell medic Brandon Jimenez. The killing happened just after 11 p.m. at the Clarksville home of the boy’s grandmother.

Two men were formally indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury Tuesday and charged with killing a 2-year-old boy and attempting to kill the boy's mother, his 1-year-old sister and the mother's new boyfriend.

Wi and Alexander are accused of conspiring to kill Wi's stepson, Joseph Bankston, who was fatally shot by Alexander at a Princeton Drive home on Oct. 4, according to court documents.

Clarksville Police have said previously that the 2-year-old's slaying was intentional and that others in the home were likely targeted too after Wi and Joseph's mother, Alicia Bankston, split up.
