JOHAL, 21, Missing November 2010 Surrey BC
February 27, 2011

Sarabjit has been missing since November 2010. Her car was found about a week later but there has been no sign of Sarabjit since.

Her car was found in New Westminster. According to a map source:

BC-10 W and BC-91 N 24.6 km - about 25 mins
152 St and BC-99A N 18.5 km - about 28 mins[/TD]
152 St 19.6 km - about 29
or as short as 13 minutes

I asked a FB friend in India for some advice. His comments are self explanatory:

"Punjab in north India naturally, just across the border from Pakistan. She appears to be a follower of Sikh religion. Their males wear turbans and sport long beards. The name Sarabjit is quite telltale. Hundreds of thousands of Sikhs have migrated from India to several countries in the western hemisphere, including USA, UK, Canada, Ecuador, Italy, etc. Search the net for Sikhism and its followers. Encyclopaedia Britannica has one of the best entries on this topic."

"As I said, the name Sarabjit is quite telltale. Only the Punjabis -- that too Sikhs -- spell it that way. In my neck of the woods it would be written as Sarvajeet and in Bengal it would be Shorbojeet. The Punjabis have mostly unisex names. Same given name for both males and females. To differentiate betwwen the sexes, they add two suffixes - Singh for man, Kaur for woman. Although this Sarabjit did not have that Kaur after her name, it was easy to identify her ethnicity from her pix. We have an innate talent for that and we are rarely wrong. A person can be identified from his accents, dress, physiognomy, the food he normally eats, the language he speaks, and also the place where he lives or originally hails from. We have 30 states, each with its own ethnic identity, language, cultural nuances, and beliefs. All Sikhs originally came from Punjab. They now live in different parts of India or in other countries but till about 250 years they were confined to the area between Delhi and Lahore (now in Pakistan)."

"Very likely, if she came from India and not born and brought up in Canada. There too the chances of arranged marriage would be high."

"It's really hard to guess. JUST anything could have happened to the poor thing, including accidental death or abduction or god forbid, even rape ... Chance of her leaving Canada on her own without clothes and passport and money are very rare. Unless she had planned the whole thing beforehand and removed her things to some hideout from where she left for the airport all dressed up. But then I don't think there are any official records of her departure. So did she leave illegally aboard some tramp ship? Sorry, I am just unable to comprehend the modus operandi."

"No, Johal is not a very common name, I mean not common as some others in that community."

The first thing I thought about was her clothing. I don't think she
would be going a liaison dressed so casually.

I took a look from a satellite to see what kind of community where Sarabjit lived. It is a single home community. A relative said Sarabjit took her keys with her and she would be back shortly.

Pajama pants are not usually worn in public. However, it is a fad among young people and to the less advantaged to wear them in public.

If she needed personal hygiene products, why would she drive almost 30 miles away?

Did someone call her to have them picked up from work?

there is a comment that husband came home at 2:30, spoke briefly with his wife. Another interview or news report said husband did not see her before she left home. "Her husband told CTV News he realized she was gone when he came home from work early Sunday morning. ”I don’t know why she leave the house,” he said. AND
His grandmother says the night Sarabjit disappeared she went to get something from her car and said she would be right back. She took her keys and put on a green jacket but never came back. Sarabjit, who works as a cleaner at Chocolate Works in Coquitlam...

What did the Husband say during the interview?
Husband would not initially agree to interviews due to "fever"

did Sarabjit take her phone with her?

Is 4AM is a shift change time in British Columbia?

Why would she leave her home at 3:30AM?

Was Sarabjit hijacked at a traffic light or stop sign?

Were there any signs of a struggle in the car, or un identified fingerprints or fibers?

What items were missing from her home, passport, money, jewelry?

How much time elapsed between her disappearance and Sarabjit being reported missing?

Who reported her missing?

Who was interveiwed when she disappeared?

Who were Sarabjit's best friends?

Surrey BCMissing Indo-Canadian Woman’s Car Found But Still No Signs Of Her
SURREY – While the vehicle of the missing Indo-Canadian woman has been located by the Surrey RCMP, police say there are still no signs of Sarabjit Johal who went missing on the early morning of Sunday Nov. 28.
The Surrey RCMP had previously requested the public’s assistance in locating her vehicle, a green 1992 Toyota Camry with BC licence plate “094NEA”. The vehicle was located on December 4 in New Westminster.

Police said Johal’s whereabouts are still unknown at this time and they continue to appeal to the public for further information on this matter. Johal, 21, was last seen driving away from her Surrey home at 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 in her 1992 Toyota Camry.
The car was discovered late Saturday, Surrey RCMP say, and has now been towed for forensic examination. Johal’s coworkers say her disappearance is very out of character, and her family has put up a $10,000 reward for any information that will lead to her whereabouts.
Last week, her husband Malkit Johal told reporters he thought his wife was somewhere in Surrey because she’s not familiar with roads outside of the city. But her employer says she drove from Surrey to her job in Coquitlam in her green car regularly. Her husband told CTV News he realized she was gone when he came home from work early Sunday morning. ”I don’t know why she leave the house,” he said.
His grandmother says the night Sarabjit disappeared she went to get something from her car and said she would be right back. She took her keys and put on a green jacket but never came back. Sarabjit, who works as a cleaner at Chocolate Works in Coquitlam, is described by coworkers as reliable and friendly. Anyone with information is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

Neily said investigators have thoroughly examined the car for forensic evidence. The results will not be released because of the ongoing investigation.
Johal, a newlywed who lives in a house near 126th Street and 91A Avenue wth her husband, was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt, green jacket, and white pyjama bottoms.

The family of a missing Surrey, B.C., newlywed is putting up a $10,000 reward for any information that will lead to her whereabouts.
Sarabjit Johal, 21, was last seen driving away from her home at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in her 1992 Toyota Camry. Her family and coworkers say her disappearance is very out of character.
Sarabjit%20JOHAL-car.jpg

Her husband, Malkit Johal, told CTV News he realized she was gone when he came home from work early Sunday morning.
"I don't know why she leave the house," he said.
His grandmother says the night Sarabjit disappeared she went to get something from her car and said she would be right back. She took her keys and put on a green jacket but never came back.
A neighbour, Cory, says he told police about a car he heard early Sunday morning making a lot of noise.
"At first I thought an alarm was going off. I wasn't sure what was going on. It sounded like he was peeling off, just taking off, laying on the horn at someone," he said.
Sarabjit, who works as a cleaner at Chocolate Works in Coquitlam, is described by coworkers as reliable and friendly.
Her boss, Ingrid Sheere, said one of her family members called to see if she had arrived for work on Monday morning. She hadn't.
"She was super reliable, always on time," she said. "When she left on Friday, she was happy as always and wished us a good weekend."
Earlier this week, her husband told reporters he thought his wife was somewhere in Surrey because she's not familiar with roads outside of the city. But her employer says she drove from Surrey to her job in Coquitlam in her green car regularly.
On Thursday, the husband's family repeatedly denied to give interviews to reporters. They said Sarabjit's husband couldn't speak because he was in bed with a fever.
The RCMP has interviewed Malkit Johal several times. They summoned the missing woman's sister, Narinder, to RCMP headquarters for questioning Thursday.
Const. Peter Neily says finding the newlywed's missing car is a priority.
"It is going to be a starting point that we believe she left in the car, therefore we think the car would be associated to her. So hopefully if we find the car we'll find her," he said.
The couple has been married less than a year. Sarbjit came to Canada three years ago and her husband a year later. It is an arranged marriage.

Newlywed pleads for help finding missing B.C. woman
By: ctvbc.ca
Date: Wednesday Dec. 1, 2010 5:47 PM PT
The husband of a missing Surrey, B.C., woman is asking for the public's help to find his new bride, who disappeared over the weekend.
Sarbjit Johal, 21, was last seen at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday as she drove away from her home in the area of 126 Street and 91a Avenue. Police say family members reported her driving away in her car, a green 1992 Toyota Camry with the licence plate 094NEA.
cSarabjit%20JOHAL-3.jpg

Her husband Malkit returned from work to find her gone.
"I don't know why she left the house," he told CTV News. "We didn't find any clues."
Sarabjit and Malkit are newlyweds -- they honeymooned in Whistler in March.
"Everything was going well," Malkit said.
He says his wife's disappearance is totally out of character, and he hasn't had any phone calls from her.
"It's the first time she left the house," he said. "She left the phone in the house -- I don't know where she went."
Now members of the family are papering the neighbourhood with posters of the missing woman, who is described as 5-6 tall, 146 pounds, with long brown hair usually tied in a ponytail. Sarabjit, who is of South Asian descent, was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt, green jacket and white pajama bottoms.
Surrey RCMP say they are actively investigating the disappearance, but won't divulge any theories about where she has gone -- or why.
"To get into specific details about this one, I don't really want to do that at this time. I don't want to compromise any ongoing investigation," Const. Peter Neily said.
"For someone to leave at that time of the morning out of character, that does cause us concern as police. It also causes her family concern."
Sarabjit's family and police are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call Surrey RCMP.

Has there been any update on her case since 2012… I tried looking for it on google. I wondered if she was found…

Speculation theory: this might be an immigration paper-marriage gone wrong. Many people from Punjab who own large sums of money or lots of farmland but are unable to immigrate to Canada because they are not educated enough to do so on their merit, tend to search for permanent residents Or citizen girls who are willing to marry the Guy who is wanting to come to Canada in exchange for land or a large sum of cash(usually $80,000–$100 000 Canadian). Or another way is marrying their siblings to each other’s family(let's say for example Sarajit’s Johal who is a permanent resident has a hypothetical brother. She marries her husband’s hypothetical-Sister(Sarabjit’s sister-in-law) to her brother. The SARB’s sister-in-law also might have permanent residence or citizenship. So they may have posted a matrimonial advertisement in the classifieds of their local newspaper stating Canadian PR girl SEEKING groom with Canadian PR sister” or one of the families went to a special match-maker that introduces both parties with certain demands. The couple’s siblings would marry each other so that Sarbjit’s hypothetical brother and his supposed wife and Malkit the Husband both come to Canada on spousal sponsorship. The husband’s sister may have backed off from the paper marriage for whatever reason. Sarbjit might be threatening her husband for his sister to marry her brother or else Sarabjit will report the husband and have him deported to India.

I bet her in-laws and husband have something going on.

It might be a passport(contract) marriage gone wrong… they probably do not want to pay Sarabjit $80K-100kCDN for the “contract/paper-marriage/sponsorship” deal that both families agreed to in India. So the Husband and his side of the family decided to get back off the financial agreement and got rid of her. She probably asked for her payment or even threatened her in-laws and husband to have them deported. And most of us know that having access to Gang-members or hiring a hitman for contract killings is easily available in a place like Surrey BC. So the husband and his family may have paid a few grand to have her vanish without a trace. It would be nice if law enforcement investigators would investigate that hypothetical possibility. There is a gut feeling that the motive behind her disappearance involves large sums of money and a “contract marriage” gone wrong. The husband and the family need to be called in for questioning.
It was 8-something months into their marriage. The husband sometimes says he came back at 2:30 am and spoke to her and he claims he came back home at 3:00 Am and saw no one was there. And The Grandma has been coached on what to say. What was she doing up at 3:00 AM asking Sarbjit about where she is going… and why would Sarabjit go shopping at 3 something in the morning?
