Thanks for opening this thread.
There may be a possibility of survivors.

From the msn link:

Egyptian security sources said there was no indication that the Airbus jet had been shot down or blown up.

The plane was at an altitude of 31,000 feet (9,400 meters) when it vanished from radar screens, it said.

So what happened?

If there are survivors they must be terrified. I hope they're rescued soon.

CNN is reporting on TV that the plane was 23 minutes into the flight when the pilot said they were having technical difficulties and requested an emergency landing at the nearest airport. The plane then disappeared from radar.

ETA - Every time I try to link the article, it comes up with the video instead so I have completely deleted it.

"The plane was carrying 217 passengers, most of whom are thought to be Russian tourists, and seven crew members, AFP reported.

Security officials in Egypt have said that the airliner is completely destroyed, according to local media, and it was initially expected that none of the passengers on board will have survived the crash.

But officials at the scene told Reuters that voices of trapped passengers could be heard in sections of the Russian airliner's wreckage, Sputnik News said."

Woah. I hope there are survivors. I wonder what the terrain is like?

The link above says -

The Airbus A-321 jet was flying from the Egyptian Sinai Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg in Russia when it went down in a desolate mountainous area of central Sinai soon after daybreak.

No survivors.

It's terrible when I read the plane had been completely destroyed and went down vertically I didn't think there was any hope. I hope the passengers were spared the knowledge the plane was in jeopardy for as long as possible. The crew must have gone through hell desperately trying to save everyone it's horrifying to think about.

Ripped in half and passengers still buckled to their seats. What a disturbing image. I feel bad for the emergency workers too.

One of the articles linked above stares technical problem caused the crash. How can they know this already, unless the pilot reported a problem before the crash. Same article indicates a militant group has claimed to have caused the crash.

One of the articles I read said the last thing they heard from the pilot was something about technical problems. I've seen nothing to suggest it was shot down, in fact I've seen several statements saying there's no evidence it was.

A report in July by military expert IHS Janes said Islamic State affiliate group Wilayat Sinai had propaganda videos in which militants are seen with a type of man-portable air defence systems (SA-18 Igla MANPADS), which can reach about 10,000 feet.

The airliner was said to be travelling at least 31,000 feet, before it made a steep descent as it crashed.

Hi my tirgger!

this is very scary - richard qwest uttered possibly a sane sentnance! But this is mountains, russia " govt (!) , lets visualize a german wings terrain site, and they are declaring no teorrists, black boxes found and no survivors --- in an inflight breakup accident sequence, 6 miles above the planet , (, which results in a huge debris pattern on earth)

............well it is a bright group here , and I dont think too many of us are agree that , well, at this point what is being claimed is incredulous ~.

I suppose assuming accident sequence began at the moment of radar loss might not be the reality here (JAL 123 flew for 32 minutes after it lost its stablizer) so ......................... I suppose it is possible that they impacted, in a controlled flight into terrain modality--intact, minutes after radar contact was lost. This changes everything!

But, 6 hours into a major crash ruling out anything and locating black boxes , on a russian air carrier I am sorry --- much is , well , I need say no more, huh guys ! ...............

If you just remove the http:// in your post that will fix the video coming up. :seeya:
(Websleuths will add the http:// back in, but the video still won't come up, try it.)

All 224 on board, including 17 children were killed, when a Metrojet flight from Sharm el-Sheikh bound for St Petersburg when the Airbus A321 crashed into the Sinai desert.
Images of the wreckage show that the plane was almost completely destroyed.
The cause of the crash remains unknown and claims of responsibility from Islamic State have been dismissed by Russian authorities.
Families of the passengers have gathered at St Petersburg airport as bodies begin to arrive back in Russia.

Russian aviation regulator Rosaviatsia said it has not yet found any reason to blame the crash of the Russian airliner in Egypt on a technical failure, an error by the crew or external actions, RIA Novosti reports.

Until there is reliable evidence about the circumstances of what happened, there is no sense in putting forward and discussing any versions.

I've read desert, rugged, desolate. Maybe similar in some ways to the Germanwings site?

It last made contact near the city of Hasana, Egypt. I searched the images and it looks like where Moses wandered for 40 days. Rocky, dry, no vegetation.
