Becky Watts murder trial: Live updates from day 22 as lawyers give closing speeches

Bristol Crown Court will hear from lawyers as they deliver their closing speeches at the Becky Watts murder trial today.

The 16-year-old schoolgirl died as a result of suffocation, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed earlier this year.

[h=3]Hoare 'is a survivor who learned how to deal with Matthews'[/h]Shauna Hoare “is a survivor in the end, who learned how best to deal [with Matthews]”.
She was able to “get what she wanted in so far as she could”, the court was told.
However defence lawyer Andrew Langdon added that Hoare was not the victim in this case.

Certainly is.

Funny how, prior to this, everyone thought she was capable enough to raise a child and be the registered carer of someone with MS - but all of a sudden we are supposed to believe she is some tragic product of abuse and control and isn't responsible for any of her actions or thoughts and somehow 'the system' is to blame.

To blame for what, I don't know, as this is the defence who are claiming she is completely innocent of everything!!

I want to first of all say that I am not condoning domestic abuse whatsoever.

But I haven't read anything that suggests SH was a victim of this to the point of being too scared of NM to leave the relationship. In 7 years of being together she has told of one incident of him grabbing her neck and one of him pulling her hair (yes, serious stuff). However, the one occasion she told him she wanted to end the relationship, he directed violence at himself.

She says she thought that he would come looking for her if she left him - she never, ever, stated that he said this.

The neighbours said they were very quiet, never argued and they hardly ever heard them.

Her facebook is comprised of HER constantly tagging him in comments, constantly posting things to him, and making comments to him. He doesn't do the same to her.

In my opinion, the violence and control of this relationship has been exaggerated for SH's benefit.

But if SH relied on him for everything, as AL has just stated - then this can easily be used to say that SH would definately help NM to murder and cover up the murder.... If her reliance was total, she needed to keep him in her life, at whatever cost.
