Amanda Blackburn was found at 8:35 AM with a gunshot wound to the head and taken to a local hospital where she has been diagnosed as brain dead. Her husband was at the gym when the incident occurred. They had a young son at home and she was newly pregnant. LE believe it was a random act.

Police are currently investigating another break-in in the same area. At this time the two cases haven't been connected.

This is awful, the southbend Tribune says "Daughter of Elkhart pastor 'brain dead' after Indianapolis shooting"

Today LE might be backing away from home invasion, not sure. I always wonder about newly pregnant women getting gunshot wounds to the head, especially at 8AM. Weird time for a home invasion. No word if anything has been taken but why shoot a tiny woman in the head? From the Indy news:

Yet more than 24 hours after the shooting, details remain murky, with police releasing few details about the nature of the incident..... Police have not said whether they believe the shooting was a random act, or released information about the nature of the incident.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Kendale Adams said investigators "must balance releasing information for the safety of the public versus the investigative priorities of the case."

Here is Amanda's Facebook:

The couple just made some video's about relationships:

Found this: The husband reportedly found his wife on the floor unconscious.

Police say three hours before the victim was found, a nearby house was hit by a burglar who took electronics and other valuables. It is not yet clear if that break-in was connected to the brutal assault.

...... some residents of the neighborhood saw a couple of odd things happen Tuesday morning. They have shared that information with police.

Very nice neighborhood from clips...

"We have had some home break-ins, but nothing as bad as this. I've had a break-in in my car five years ago and that is one of the reason you see all these cameras here," said Baker.

Eyewitness News has learned that homicide detectives are looking at video from several home security cameras.

I, too, am hoping this is a burglary gone wrong rather than something personal. I was reminded of another case discussed here on WS nearly 4 years ago. In a home invasion, also in Indianapolis, a young man and his 7-year-old niece were shot execution-style. It turned out that a friend of the young man, who had live with the family for a while, broke in to steal a video game/electronics with another man. The male victim had stayed home from work that day to care for his niece, who was home from school sick. Otherwise, no one would have been home.

I'm wondering if there was a similar situation in this case, only more random. Here is the link to the 2011 case:

People are murdered every day by strangers and for no good reason. I am distressed by the rush to judgment here re: the husband. I think it was a crime of opportunity. Criminal sees husband drive off and enters the home to rob it. Maybe thought the home was unoccupied and surprised the victim. Panicked (maybe on drugs?), shot her and fled. My opinion, only, and will I be SHOCKED if it's the husband?...sadly, no. But we have no information - this just happened. Maybe it's just me, but seems like so many home invasions/robberies/burglaries are ending up with murder these days.

That was a horrible case. I forgot about it. There are tons of random and stupid crimes out there. But many pregnant women are killed by their partners. It's a true statistic.

Oh, gosh! That was a horrible case! My husband knew the young fella killed in that home invasion. All over electronics! So sad!

ETA: I was referring to Indy Anna's post.

The neighborhood is nice but anything close to 38th street is a bit sketchy. FYI...Indy is my hometown and I know the area pretty well.
I hope they solve this one soon.

I'm confused if she actually died. I had news texts all afternoon saying she died. All local media said "killed." Now, they are all backtracking. There were even quotes from her family saying she had passed on and the crowd funding website from the church states she died.

Weird.

I was too but then I came across an article that said they were donating her organs. That explained why some say she has died. jmo

I find it strange that the coroner made this statement:

" The coroner says death “is imminent” for Amanda Blackburn, the wife of an Indianapolis pastor who was attacked in a home invasion on the city’s northwest side.

According to the coroner, she is brain dead but still on a ventilator: “She is still on a ventilator at this time. Our office has been contacted, but she has not been pronounced at this time. It appears that death is imminent.”

I wonder what evidence LE has that they are saying it is a home invasion. I don't believe I have seen a direct quote from LE stating it was an invasion, just what the reporters are printing. What if it were somebody AB knew that murdered her and made it look like a robbery?

She is brain dead, connected to a respirator. My guess is they are harvesting her organs now or sometime soon. It is a complicated process where the donor body is given different medications over time to prepare for the process.
