Joy of animals helps Troy worshipers embrace Christmas

Louis Aguilar, The Detroit News 7:23 p.m. EST December 20, 2015

Hundreds of worshipers streamed out of the Zion Church sanctuary following the 11 a.m. service Sunday and surrounded the “live” Nativity scene in the lobby.

A towering one-humped camel, a chocolate-colored alpaca with mop-top hair, a black cow, a pair of goats and a spotted pony were in the background of the Nativity scene...

Wow, so many different animals.

Years ago in a small town in predominately ranching Southwest area, we saw a live nativity featured the usual human roles and a few ranch animals who seemed nervous.

A local explained to us - the donkey was high-strung to begin w and was even more skittish because 4-H Club used him for roping & lasso-ing practice the previous week. LOL. It's a wonder the poor thing did not bolt.
