Five top officials in the Texas city were arrested Thursday under a federal indictment accusing them of taking tens of thousands of dollars in bribes and helping the operator of an illegal gambling operation who went by the nickname “Mr. T.”

The indictment swept up the city’s mayor, mayor pro tempore (who both have city council votes) and a council member, as well as the city manager, a former city council member and the alleged gambling operator, Ngoc Tri Nguyen. None of the men has commented about the charges or filed any pleas in response to the indictment.

wow, big doings in Crystal City.

You keep doing you, Texas.

AMEN. Amen. Texas sucks. Pass the word on.

Anything at all to keep 120 people from moving to Austin every single day of the year. We are incredibly overcrowded, and getting more crowded.

This may be Texas' issue, but we, as a Country, need to do some serious cleaning up. From top to bottom.

Most recent entry on official fb page: https://www.facebook.com/crystalcity is Feb 3, just before those arrests.
"A thoughtful plan for better streets includes dramatic investment and smart spending. Starting in March of 2014, the City of Crystal City went from only spending $300,000 per year on our streets to $1 million per year. With the addition of the City equipment pictured below, our City is now able to save, at least, 40% on the cost of street building materials (oil, asphalt, rock, and other materials). This cost effective plan began with the purchase of an oil truck in 2015 and expanded with acquiring a Mack Truck with end-dump and belly dump trailers. The Crystal City budget for streets is now over $1 million per year and will go further through the work of the Crystal City team and these excellent tools." bbm
Not sure how that savings on materials results from new trucks.

Jan 24th on fb:
"Our Crystal City Police Department team has had another great week of accomplishments including now being approved to receive federal surplus law enforcement equipment. After completing training in April, expect to see even more enhancements to our law enforcement team." bbm

^ Big time spending of federal $$$$.

The city's website has a list of officials, emergency contact (CC PD), a few pix, and this:
"If you are looking for more information about the City of Crystal City, Texas call (830) 374 3477."

I'd call it ^ bare bones. Maybe the site was suddenly 'streamlined' in the past few days?

Much more info at a seemingly unofficial site: http://www.cityofcc.org/

And here: http://www.city-data.com/city/Crystal-City-Texas.html
At city-data site, scroll way down to table of city employees:

Just tell folks who want to move to Austin that if they live in a decent apartment that their rent automatically goes up $100 a month on each lease renewal. That should keep some people away!

I LOVE Austin. Don't live there, though. :)
