The separate ligature.

The 'garrote' and the separate ligature appear to have been made from the same material. It looks like cheap shoelace.

The separate ligature has three loops. One loop appears fixed while the other two look like a double slip-knot.

IMO the separate ligature, and how it was used, should be explored more fully.

The cord used for the ligatures was 1/4" wide flat nylon cord by Stansport, a sporting goods distributor in California. The cord is used primarily for camping. It was sold in the sporting goods aisle of McGuckins hardware store in Boulder and came in 50' packages and 100' packages.

There were two ligatures tied on JonBenet -- one around the neck and one holding the wrists together.

These facts of yours are based on what? OK maybe the brand has been identified, but IMO there's no way to determine the cord coming from a specific store.

The garrote had one loop, and the separate ligature had three. Thats four loops. One for the neck, two for the wrists, and one for ?

BlueCrab, did John Van Tassel of the RCMP, have input into those final musings about the who, what, where, when 'the rope' was acquired? Seems as though IF he were indeed a 'world' renowned forensic knot expert, brought in by BPD, that he would have extensive knowledge of the background possibilities of 'that' rope.


Such as common usage of that type of rope. Where in the Ramsey home it might have been used and tie to common usage as to who in the family might have 'needed' it.

HOTYH - I may be wrong here, but I think BlueCrab was just pointing out that it the cord was available at that particular store.

I'm pretty sure the separate ligature was not just used to hold JBR's wrists together, since it has 2 loops at one end, a loop at the other end, and a significant length between each end.

The separate ligature seems too elaborate for only binding the wrists.
