Ontario, California -
Police in Ontario arrested a man who was allegedly under the influence of drugs when he crashed a Corvette into a tree during a test drive Tuesday with a CarMax salesman. The salesman died of his injuries, police said.
Alex Mark Demetro
The driver, 28-year-old Alex Mark Demetro of Union City, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of drugs, said Sgt. Jeff Higbee of the Ontario Police Department.
The accident was reported about 12:45 p.m. on Mercedes Lane near Concours Street, Higbee said.
Witnesses told police that the driver lost control of the Corvette and crashed while traveling at a high rate of speed, Higbee said. Witnesses told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that the vehicle reached speeds of at least 70 mph.
The salesman, a 43-year-old man from Montclair, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Higbee said. He was later pronounced dead. His name was not released pending notification of his family.
