The child’s grandmother called 911 after a woman who took care of him and lived on the second floor took Anthony upstairs to his uncle’s third-floor apartment, the police said.

The uncle told investigators that when the woman handed him the boy, Anthony was already unconscious and unresponsive, the police said.

[...]

She said the woman who was babysitting Anthony on Sunday had started to help his mother, Marta Delgado, with child care three or four months ago, on and off. “I trusted my daughter’s judgment,” she said.

Leave your child for 2 days with this animal? TOS prevents me from stating my opinion. This poor, poor child.

The only child caregiver she could find was a schizophrenic heroin addict who had already lost custody of her own child. No excuse. And for 2 long days Anthony was subjected to her. Throw her in a filthy hole for the rest of her miserable life.

RIP Anthony

Video reveals accused babysitter's chilling words: 'I just wanted to inflict pain on something' - May 2017

"I really didn't mean to kill him. I just wanted to inflict pain on something else because I was in pain. ... I didn't know he was going to die. That intention did not cross my mind. ... I take responsibility. I am sorry."

With those chilling words, Gloria Fields admitted to detectives she fatally tortured and sexually abused a 17-month-old boy who she was babysitting last year in her Concord home, according to a video interview played in court Thursday at a pretrial hearing.

Pretrial hearings are scheduled to resume on July 14 in the case of Gloria Fields.

A trial date has not been set.

A Concord woman's admission to fatally torturing and sexually abusing a 17-month-old boy she was babysitting last year in her home can be used against her at trial, a justice has ruled.

Investigators properly obtained the incriminating statements from Gloria Fields during interviews with her at the 120th Precinct stationhouse on Feb. 21-23, 2016, state Supreme Court Justice Wayne Ozzi ruled.

"We are actively engaged in trying to resolve this matter in a way that is fair and just to all the parties," Mario F. Gallucci, the attorney for Gloria Fields said after a conference in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Gallucci declined to comment on the specifics of the talks.

During the proceeding, Justice Wayne Ozzi informed the defendant the case would go to trial on Jan. 8 if it is not resolved by the next court date on Dec. 12.

The babysitter accused of sexually abusing and fatally torturing a 17-month-old boy two years ago in her Concord home will go before a jury, although not as soon as she had hoped.

Mario F. Gallucci, the lawyer for Gloria Fields, said Thursday he expects his client's trial to start on March 6.

Gallucci commented after a brief proceeding in state Supreme Court, St. George, in which Justice Wayne Ozzi ordered the parties to return on Feb. 26 for a conference.

The babysitter accused of sexually abusing and fatally torturing a 17-month-old boy two years ago in her Concord home won't claim at trial that she was insane, her lawyer told a justice on Monday.

"Ms. Fields does not want to use a psychiatric defense," attorney Mario F. Gallucci said at a pretrial conference.

Gallucci also said Fields had rejected prosecutors' offer to plead guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the boy's death on Feb. 21, 2016.

Justice Wayne Ozzi ordered the parties back to court on Wednesday for a ruling on several issues. He said he intends to start jury selection on Monday, April 2, if the case is not resolved.
