This is the Bosma murder trial daily discussion thread. The trial daily discussion thread is for discussion of trial evidence/testimony only, not for general discussion, posts about past threads, other members, etc. Off-topic posts will be removed.

Note: Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (articles and tweets) is allowed. Keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge and remember to link up to MSM reporting of same.

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits. Posts that violate a Publication Ban, or discussion when the jury is absent, will be removed.

At all times, keep in mind Websleuths TOS, so affectionately referred to as The Rules.

There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for snarky or disrespectful posts and/or subtle digs at other members. Mods will not be PMing you with explanations, you will find your post has disappeared, or that you can no longer post.

There is to be NO name calling or name variations, not even of the accused.

There is to be no BICKERING between members. A difference of opinion is NOT a TOS violation. Some will think one or both of the accused are guilty, some will think one or both are not guilty, and some will be on the fence. All of that is okay and should NOT BE ATTACKED. If you disagree, that's fine, move past the post. If a post is offensive, alert it and let the Mods review it. If you respond to the post, both the offensive post AND yours will be removed and may result in other consequences.

Other reminders for reference as we have respectful discussion in each of the daily trial discussion threads:

Abuse of the WS Alert feature can have consequences including timeout or worse. Such abuse includes, but is not limited to:

• Overuse of the alert system

• Repeatedly alerting on the same poster

• Demanding a specific outcome

• Alerting on the same post more than once

Once you have alerted on a post, please move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Administrators, Moderators or Owners, and don't expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

The principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

If you have any questions, PM a Mod and we will be happy to assist you. The main Mods/Admin for this trial will be Bessie, Coldpizza, and sillybilly.

Justice Goodman is now in the courtroom, and legal arguments are underway. I'll let everyone know when the jury is in and I can report on what's happening. In the meantime, I'll post some photos from the mountain of exhibitions we received yesterday.

it's just so strange the involvement this girl has (CN)...why on earth would she be interested in having a picture of a gun sent to her? Was she a gun collector? Was this part of her ART? Staged photo for something?

What date was the gun photo sent to CN?

As I'm looking at the photos of the house, there seems to be a strange disconnect in style/decorating. The only uniting factor is the mess in every room.

The basement paneling looks like it's painted black and the carpet is black, with 80s-looking sconces. Maybe it was done as a party room, or movie theatre type space?

The master bedroom looks like someone actually cared about it at one point. Nice, updated mouldings and colour, with pictures on the walls (I'm actually shocked that the frames are all hung straight - doesn't fit with the unkept look).

Then the main floor office is a mishmash of 60s/70s furniture with nothing on the walls (but the moulding and floors seem to be updated).

MOO of course. :moo:

I'm laughing that David Banks is back on the stand- wonder if Dungey is going to have the same bedside manner as he had with Banks' partner? MOO

by Adam Carter 9:55 AM

Retired OPP identification officer David Banks will return to the witness box this morning to continue his testimony.
by Adam Carter 10:00 AM

The jury is now being recalled.
by Adam Carter 10:05 AM

Assistant Crown asking Banks about May 16, and the examination of Tim Bosma's truck.
by Adam Carter 10:08 AM

Banks says no one examining the truck was wearing a firearm, because they didn't want to cross contaminate the scene for gunshot residue.
by Adam Carter 10:08 AM

The investigators were wearing Tyvek suits, he says.
by Adam Carter 10:09 AM

All exhibits in the case were handed off to Hamilton police, and they decided what went for forensic analysis, Banks says.
by Adam Carter 10:11 AM

Each sample was in its own individual packaging as to avoid cross contamination.
by Adam Carter 10:12 AM

The smashed passenger side window was wrapped with cardboard.
by Adam Carter 10:13 AM

My prayers go out to the Bosma family again today as they have to endure another day in the courtroom.

A laser was used looking for fingerprints on the outside of the truck, Banks says, but they weren't successful.
by Adam Carter 10:14 AM

Jury now hearing again about heating crazy glue used so vapours could make fingerprints in the trailer more visible.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 10m10 minutes ago
Smashed passenger window removed from truck, carefully stabilized and wrapped. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 9m9 minutes ago
May 16 did laser exam of truck exterior looking for prints. But unsuccessful. Used fingerprint powder instead.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 7m7 minutes ago
Added chemical like KrazyGlue to inside of trailer, vaporized it so it would stick to prints. #Bosma Found a backpack in trailer.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 6m6 minutes ago
Explaining lifting black prints with tape, putting them on white index cards...Also collected gunshot residue. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 6m6 minutes ago

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 3m3 minutes ago
Entire seat cover from truck cut out and retained as an exhibit. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
Rear view mirror had fingerprint impression. Mirror seized to enhance and compare print. Jury has heard that print matched Dellen Millard.

Banks now describing when scientists from the Centre for Forensic Sciences came to test for blood on the truck.
by Adam Carter 10:20 AM

Investigators also used the trailer as as a "chamber" to examine the green tarps found inside. No fingerprints could be found on them, but blood was.
by Adam Carter 10:21 AM

Swabs were also done for "handler" DNA -- looking for DNA in places like doorhandles, etc.
by Adam Carter 10:25 AM

There were two stains on the seats in the back ... and then the entire seat cover was cut out and retained as an exhibit," Banks says. The shell casing found in the truck was found on the floor in the back.

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 7m7 minutes ago
Detectives first thought psgr window was totally gone but once lifted there was shattered glass at base, "held together by the tint." #Bosma

This has been my question about that window from the first time I saw it. The shattered part of the window was rolled down into the door so therefore it just looked like a door with the window rolled down. They were not driving it around with that shattered glass showing. When LE tried to roll up the window, the shattered glass was exposed, held together by the tint film.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 4m4 minutes ago
Now focusing on gunshot residue testing. Took 8 initial gun shot tests at one time, followed by 4 more. Some from inside driver's door.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 4m4 minutes ago
Use a sticky dabber to collect GSR. Take samples throughout vehicle to determine if gun fired inside truck. GSR invisible to eye.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Collected GSR swab from inside rear door, driver side. Then inside passenger door inside. Next rear passenger door inside. Then ceiling.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 40s40 seconds ago
Changed dabbers, gloves for each new area. Also tested seats. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Decals had been removed from several areas of truck. Beneath was sanded.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
No sign ignition or doors of truck had been tampered with. #Bosma

The gunshot residue tests are used to dab a specific area in the vehicle, and attempt to get the residue to adhere to the sticky pad on the test, Banks says.
by Adam Carter 10:30 AM

The drivers door and passenger door were tested for gunshot residue, Banks says. He wasn't wearing a gun at the time, he says, nor was anyone else in the vicinity.
by Adam Carter 10:34 AM

The dashboard area was also tested for GSR.
by Adam Carter 10:34 AM

Banks had to try to avoid places where blood stains were, he says.
by Adam Carter 10:34 AM

The ceiling on the driver's side was also tested for GSR.
by Adam Carter 10:35 AM

The seat backs were also tested.
by Adam Carter 10:35 AM

Assistant Crown Tony Leitch now asking about decals that had been removed from the tailgate of the truck.
by Adam Carter 10:37 AM

"Some of the areas look like they'd been filled in with filler. Almost all of the areas looked like they'd been sanded," Banks says. There were no signs of forced entry, he says.
by Adam Carter 10:37 AM

Investigators used the VIN number on the truck to get the dealership to cut a key.
