Here's an interesting read: Michael's Story
Michael's life began as a miracle. He was born in Cleveland, Oh. to a young woman of 12, on July 14th 1963. Since his birth mother was too young to care for him, he was given to the state. For the first 3 years, his care, a convent. (More than not, we believe his singing began there). His first public notes were heard while living at an orphanage named Parmadale, just outside of, Parma, Ohio.
At 3 years of age he would crawl up stairs to the choir loft. By Dec. of that year, he performed his first solo, Little drummer boy. Age 6 was still in the choir & an altar boy. That year, Michael began making the rounds of the 'foster' homes. Between ages 6-9 Michael saw 7 foster homes, & back to Parmadale. You have to imagine, 7 different homes, 7 sets of family's, 7 schools & so on.
First, the skipping school to be an altar boy is strange enough. Some of the foster parents didn't quite understand. So, after abuse, he would find himself back at Parmadale. Always!
Between the ages of 9-12, The Children's Aid Society, became the reality check. Public schools began. Skating, Basketball, Sports of all kinds including, Hockey! He really enjoyed those experiences. Also, his signs of a traveling life began. Boystown, the world famous home for boys in Omaha, received Michael for 2 terms of summer school. Immediately, he joined the World Famous Boystown Choir. He was in church on Sunday, still singing.
Through the next 8 years, Michael traveled with the choir and saw every state in the union, performed the national anthem in the biggest stadiums, and recorded 3 Christmas albums. During his time with the choir, they also sang on Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas album, appeared on Up With People, and The Osmond Family Show.
At age 12, earning his right through the rotary program, Michael was chosen to be an honorary pledge for the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Upon graduating, Michael didn't perform in public for 16 years.
At age 32, Michael received a letter from 1-800-USA-FIND. The letter delivered the shocking news that his family is alive, & wants to see him. He made arrangements to fly home to Revana, Oh. Michael met his natural birth mother for the first time.
That Christmas, Michael gave his mother a present. A cassette tape with six songs.
That tape led Michael to rediscover his singing career and to a succession of performances. Here is a small list of where Michael has appeared (so far...)
