ChancellorJ found this potential match

I might have a match for this guy. I'm not sure where to post this. I'm usually just a lurker. Although the MP is listed as "no known distinctive body features" that doesn't necessarily he was tattoo-less. The circumstances, dates, locations, and other specs seem to line up, plus this MP went by the nickname Lupe, which would explain the "Anita" and "L&A" tattoos. Although different states, it's basically just a straight shot up US-377 or I-35, a two hour drive.

and I'm just starting this thread to get a discussion going as I didn't see a thread for this UID.
Looks like a match to me.

Oh wow, thanks for posting this. :) I really think it matches up pretty well, and if you notice, Lupe wasn't reported missing for two years after his disappearance, so when they found the John Doe, Lupe wouldn't've shown up as a potential match for years.

I emailed the info to Texas officials, but I'm not sure I could get the number to work for the OK office. There's been no response, and even if my guess is right I fear that it's just being ignored.

It looks like a good match to me and your logic makes sense. Did you turn it into the case manager in OK? Its listed under the UID's namus profile or doenetwork profile
.

When I called for Ms. Berg I was told I had the wrong number (the one listed on the site) for her. I can try again, but I was confused by this. I was only able to turn it into the TX office, they had me email it.

Hey, thank you so much. I also found this exchange online, regarding Goana and another body. http://z10.invisionfree.com/usedtobedoe/ar/t74942.htm

I was forwarded your information by Officer Wester concerning Missing Person Guadalupe Gaona. Our records indicate Mr. Gaona has a tattoo on his left arm which reads “Anita”. Unfortunately, the possible matched decedent did not have any tattoos according to Dana Austin at the Medical Examiner’s office. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Thank you very much for the work you do and please do not hesitate to call on me if I can be of further assistance.

Respectfully,

Detective Daniel Scesney #295

Oklahoma ME responded (thanks for the email!!) and thanked me for my tip. She mentioned there wasn't DNA or dental records on file, so she has to do some digging before he can be ruled out or confirmed. I'm shaking with excitement. I'm SO hopeful. Thank you for all your help, I feel like this is something important. :)

Goana has an Anita tat on his left arm? OMG. This has to be him.

I agree, this has to be a match. The "L & A" tattoo on the UID probably stands for Lupe & Anita.

Great job, ChancellorJ!

I also agree, this has to be a match. I just looked at Lupe's namus page, and I don't know how recently it was added, but under physical/medical it mentions an "Anita" tattoo on his left forearm. As wintermule said, great work ChancellorJ!

The issue would seem to be that there's DNA for Lupe, but no dentals or fingerprints. While for the UID, there are fingerprints and dentals, but no DNA. Though, namus inidicates "sample not yet submitted", so it seems to be a waiting game at this point.

I assume you are correct about that. Hard to believe, but a year is not very long to wait. A case in MA took four years from when the remains were found and immediately suspected to be the missing woman to when the family got final confirmation.

Before DNA, I think they probably would have made the identification on the basis of what we know. But now they have to be sure.

I received a message that Gaona had been ID as the UID. There are permission errors for both Gaona and UID. I think it would be a match for ChancellorJ.

Calling CarlK! For verification!

I received messages, as well (both here and on reddit). I've not heard anything official, but there's no doubt in my mind at all. I hope his family finds some peace in this.

The decedent has been ID'd as Guadelupe Gaona

A cold case has been reopened after Oklahoma authorities identified the deceased victim 32 years after his body was found.

On Feb. 23, 1985, a farmer found a naked, decomposed body by the side of a creek on Cliff Rd., outside of Kingston, Okla.

According to KXII, the body was that of a Hispanic man with “Anita” tattooed on his right arm; however, his identify remained unknown until recently.

“About three months ago they identified Guadelupe Gaona who resided at that time in Grand Prairie, Texas,” Undersheriff Ed Kent told KXII.

The reports say "medical examiners were opening cold cases when they found the match through DNA comparison", and that this occurred "about three months ago".

They don't say anything about a tip, but this thread very well documents that ChancellorJ called in the tip a year and a half ago, and that Angela Berg replied to his email. This is clearly a WS Match!

Rest in peace, Guadelupe :rose:
