Crime Stoppers has renewed its plea for tips in an unsolved murder Saturday, March 19, at Kaʻa Point on Maui.

Police launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body in the brush area between the shoreline and Amala Place in Kahului at around 12:30 a.m. March 19.

Maui police identified the victim as Michael Colby, 39, of Kahului, and say he appeared to have sustained injuries.

Colby’s pickup truck, a dark blue Ford Ranger with a white camper shell, was parked along Amala Place, just west of the Kite Beach parking area and within close proximity to the crime scene. Authorities say the windows, windshield and turn signals on the victim’s pickup truck had all been smashed.

He is an artist. He has a website. I don't know if it's okay to post his website.

I'm thinking Mr Colby might have painted some other guys wife or girlfriend naked after seeing his Instagram? RIP Michael- it wasn't a good ending I don't think- fly high and free bro.

Healohaomakanaamekai Akahi Pua, 25, was arraigned last week on a new indictment alleging second-degree murder of 39-year-old Michael Colby.

The new indictment, which was returned by a Maui County grand jury Aug. 11, alleges that Akahi Pua caused Colby’s death by inflicting injury on Colby or by failing to get help for him while knowing he was suffering from serious physical harm.

Noting that Akahi Pua has been incarcerated since April 2016, Cahill said a trial would proceed Nov. 27 unless the defense requested a delay.

Suspect freed as murder trial delayed

Trial for Healohaomakanaamekai Akahi Pua, 25, had been scheduled to begin Monday in 2nd Circuit Court.

The prosecution asked for the delay, citing the unavailability of two essential witnesses, including one who wouldn’t be available to testify for another six months.

In resetting the trial for Nov. 26, Judge Peter Cahill said he wouldn’t have granted the delay if the prosecution hadn’t agreed to Akahi Pua’s release.
