Colorado police are seeking Bay Area residents who might have had interactions with a San Francisco man on the dating app Tinder, after he was arrested for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend and stashing her body in a storage unit.

The body of 33-year-old Colorado Springs woman Julie Tureson was discovered Friday in a storage unit belonging to 38-year-old San Francisco resident James Woo, NBC Bay Area reports, just hours after she was reported missing.

(...)

That search ended later Friday, when investigators tracked Woo to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. He was detained by Homeland Security as he waited for a flight to Hong Kong, the Denver Post reports, in an apparent attempt to flee the country. He has since been booked on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Sorry for the late notice (or after-the-fact maybe), but this case is being discussed on Nancy Grace's show tonight if anyone is interested :)

A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and leaving her body in an El Paso County storage unit revealed his dark side in emails, court papers show.

"My mind gets so dark and I get so obsessed I start planning crazy things in detail that I fully intend to carry out," James Woo, 38, wrote in one missive, according to court documents.

(...)

Court documents paint Woo as a possessive, controlling and volatile boyfriend who planted cameras in Tureson's home, placed a GPS tracker on her phone and pretended to be Tureson in emails to her neighbor detailing "rules" on "spending time" with her. (...)

Court documents quote an email Woo allegedly sent to someone who gave his wife a "sexual hug."

"I will go bat (expletive) crazy if anyone tries to threaten our relationship in any way ... I know I look like a harmless quiet passive dude but my brain isn't wired normal and I've struggled with my own demons all my life," Woo wrote, according to court papers.

"I know my crazy scale goes from a 2 to 1000 immediately when the switch flips and there's nothing in between," he continued (...)

High-profile attorney wins delay in Woo murder trial

Attorney Jose Baez made his first appearance in 4th Judicial District Court on behalf of James Tachuan Woo, who is charged in the April 2016 killing of his ex-girlfriend, Julie Tureson.

A judge agreed to move Woo's trial on first-degree murder charges from Aug. 14 to Jan. 16 after Baez argued he needed more time to go through voluminous documents in the case. Woo hired Baez earlier this year after firing his public defenders.

Judge: Hacking claim barred at trial in lurid Colorado Springs murder case

As James Woo warned his estranged girlfriend there would be consequences for ignoring his stream of angry text messages, someone hacked her teenage son's Facebook page and posted lurid pictures of her doing drugs in lingerie.

Prosecutors' theory that Woo, 40, was responsible for the humiliating breach will not be heard by a jury at his upcoming trial on charges of later killing Julie Tureson and leaving her body in a Colorado Springs storage unit, however.

A judge ruled Tuesday that no direct evidence supports the claim.

The trial, slated to begin Jan. 16, is likely to veer into dark territory as prosecutors describe the unconventional relationship between defendant and victim, which involved claims that Woo, who has a wife and family in San Francisco, paid Tureson several thousand dollars a month for three years to indulge his fantasies.

A former detective with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and a sergeant with the San Francisco Police Department testified in court on Friday, saying an initial search of the apartment was carried out without a warrant because of concerns Woo's wife could be inside and injured. When they didn't find the wife inside the apartment, officers left the scene, got an official warrant and returned for to do a full search.

How does he have enough $$ for Jose Baez, but was originally granted a public defender? He should be made to pay back the PD's office for time spent before Baez's hiring.

Attorneys for a man charged in a lurid murder case in Colorado Springs said in court Wednesday that a notorious adult website has rebuffed their request for information.

Operators of Ashley Madison, a dating website that caters to people seeking extramarital affairs, told attorneys for James Woo the site had deleted data that Woo's defense team had requested under a subpoena.

It's unclear how Ashley Madison figures into the case, but the El Paso County Sheriff's Office previously acknowledged turning to the dating website Tinder as part of their investigation.

Celebrity defense attorney lists doubts in opening of Colorado Springs murder trial

Jose Baez, who gained prominence for representing ex-NFL football player Aaron Hernandez and Florida mother Casey Anthony in high-profile murder cases that ended in acquittals, argued Woo had found Tureson's body and - knowing he would be the "number-one suspect" - stashed it in the unit and left town.

Judge rejects bid for mistrial as DA, defense attorney spar at Colorado Springs murder trial

When Baez asked why people carry two phones, Bethel said she was unsure of Tureson's reasons, but some people with a second phone use it for work, to store contact information. The also are common among people who sell drugs, she said.

Cross-examining, May asked the deputy, "You have no reason to believe Julie Tureson was a drug dealer?"

After Bethel replied "no," the district attorney pulled two phones out of his pockets, and, showing them to the jury, asked Bethel if she would conclude he was a drug dealer because he had two phones. She, again, told him no.

After the jury was dismissed for lunch, Baez petitioned the judge, saying May had attempted to make himself a witness in the trial with the gesture.

"We finally have closure, and we know the person responsible isn't going to breathe a breath of fresh air ever again," said Jessica Stark, Tureson's younger sister. "The prosecution worked their tails off. The Sheriff's Office worked their tails off. We really appreciate that everyone took their due diligence to make sure justice was served."

Before giving the sentence, the automatic penalty for first-degree murder, Judge Jann DuBois asked Woo if he had anything to say.

"Yes," he said. "I'd like to be sentenced to life without parole, and let's get out of here."
