Woman missing after casino trip

Posted: October 11, 2005

The Placer County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in locating a 27-year-old woman whose car was found abandoned at the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln.

Sheriff's officials report Sacramento resident Christie Wilson was last seen by her boyfriend, Daniel Burlando, 30, of Sacramento, at 5 p.m. Oct. 4 when he left to go to his father's house for dinner.

Later that evening, Wilson reportedly left Burlando a phone message stating she was going to the casino. Burlando did not grow concerned when she didn't come home that night, since she has stayed out all night in the past, officials report.

But by Oct. 6 Burlando grew concerned when his girlfriend never materialized, officials say.

Burlando reportedly notified the Sacramento Police Department, who confirmed Wilson as a missing person.

Wilson is described as a 5-foot, 4-inch tall white female, weighing around 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Placer County Sheriff's Department detectives are working with Sacramento authorities and ask anyone with information to contact Placer County Sheriff's Sgt. Bob McDonald at (530) 889-7852 or the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 433-0650

Investigators Focus on Casino in Search for Missing Woman

10/12/2005
by Elizabeth Bishop

Investigators from the Placer County Sheriff's Department are searching the area around Thunder Valley Casino for a missing Sacramento woman.

Christie Wilson, 27, was reported missing by her boyfriend after she failed to return from a trip to the Lincoln casino last week. Searchers using dog teams are looking in the fields around the casino and flying over the area.

Wilson's boyfriend, Daniel Burlando, said he last saw her on October 4. He became worried when he hadn't heard from her by the sixth, so he drove to the casino where he found her car still in the parking lot.

Wilson was seen on surveillance video leaving the Thunder Valley Casino at 1:15 a.m. on October 5 with a 53-year-old man she'd apparently met there, investigators said. Authorities identified and located the man and questioned him about Wilson.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the man but say he is a Placer County resident and married.

Wow I can't beleive I have not heard anythingabout this case on the national level. So sad this poor girl has been missing for 8 days now and they still can't find her and this is the 1st I heard of it. I pray they find her safe and sound.

This 53 year old man she was seen leaving with seems very fishy to me. Did she meet him at the casino while gambling..............or did he see her there and follow her out to her car or start up a conversation with her on the way out the door to the parking lot. Maybe they became freind while gambling etc and he offered to walk her to her car or give her a ride to her car since it was the early mornig hours and then he assulated her once in his car.

Greta covered this last night with someone in LE from Sacramento as the guest....there's no trancript and my memory isn't good enough to repeat what was said but the articles basically cover it. This is not far from me and I haven't been to that casino.

I wonder if she won a lot of money that night. I would imagine that LE has checked that out through the casino.

I'm glad that LE was able to identify the man she walked out the door with.
Odd she walks out the door with this guy...she disappears but her car is still in the parking lot. Hope this is solved soon and that Christie is found alive.

I just read the Greta transcript and it said that it appears she met the older guy that night at the casino. The camera shows them walking out together but in their interviews with the older guy he said they both went to their own cars. She said she left something in the casino, headed back in and he left. He is married and his wife said he came home in the early morning hours.

Prayers for her and her family.

Christie Wilson, who now lives in Sacramento, was last seen on surveillance cameras at Thunder Valley walking around the casino and leaving with a 53-year-old man.
But she never made it to her car and has not been seen or heard from since those early hours of Oct. 4

"Her car is really highlighted well on the tape," her stepfather Pat Boyd, a San Jose police detective, told KTVU Wednesday. "She never made it to her car."

Authorities said Wilson, 27, was clearly seen several times on the tapes in the casino interacting with the unidentified man, who they are calling a 'person of interest.'

"They went from table to table," Placer County Sheriff's Lt. George Malim said of the tape. "They spent some time together going table to table and we see them walk around…and then walk out of the casino to the parking lot…The fact we see her walk into the parking lot with the man gives us great concern."

Malim said Wilson's silver BMW was about 200 yards from the man's vehicle.

Wilson's mother said police have told them there is evidence pointing to the man.

"They have some circumstantial evidence, but not enough to pinpoint him," she said.

The early show on CBS covered Christie Wilson’s disappearance. She has been missing since early on the morning of Oct. 5th from the Thunder Valley Casino. It sounds to us like the 53 year old man she was seen leaving with is a STRONG person of interest.

CBS News | Have You Seen Christie Wilson? | October 13, 2005 10:02:35

(CBS/AP) In California, police are questioning a man in the mysterious disappearance of a young woman last seen leaving a casino.

National correspondent Hattie Kauffman reports 27-year-old Christie Wilson vanished Oct. 5. Wilson was last seen at the Thunder Valley Casino in Roseville, Calif., near Sacramento with a man almost twice her age.

“It’s horrible, just horrible,” her mother, Debbie Boyd, said.

A police officer reports, “They met each other, went from table to table, walked out together to the parking lot.”

Police say surveillance cameras caught the two walking toward the man’s car. Detectives have located the 53-year-old married man, and say he’s a “person of interest,” after finding evidence in his vehicle.

At a press conference, police reported, “We did find items of forensic evidence that we’re taking to the lab.” More…….

Investigators Release New Details in Missing Woman Case

<snip>
Placer County sheriff's investigators said a "person of interest" in the week-old disappearance of Sacramento woman at a Lincoln casino is no longer cooperating with detectives.

Investigators said the 53-year-old man was captured on Thunder Valley Casino surveillance tape as he left the casino with Christie Wilson, 27 at 1:15 a.m, October 5. That was the last time anyone has seen Wilson.

Investigators also said the man has not been able or willing to explain how he obtained a black eye. Detectives have not released the man's identity but have said he is a Placer County resident and is married.

Investigators also urged anyone who left the casino about the same time as the man and Wilson to contact them.

I swear its one after another these days, the news is depressing, i feel so bad for all these missing people and there is nothing we can do!! Its frustrating..:banghead: ..

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. Now, the video that you do have of her leaving the casino — how far can you see the two of them walk together?

MALIM: They go into the parking lot probably about 50 yards or so, and then because it's nighttime and the incoming cars and the cars moving around, as well as the diffuse lighting in the parking lot, they kind of disappear. And we haven't been able to determine, at this point, if she had gotten in the car with him or what direction she went in.

VAN SUSTEREN: And this is about 1:30, is that right, sir?

MALIM: About 1:15 on Wednesday morning.

~snip~

VAN SUSTEREN: Does Christie know him, or does he know Christie?
MALIM: At this point in the investigation, we believe that, no, they do not know each other, and it appears from the video that they met each other at the casino that night.

VAN SUSTEREN: Have you seized his car and given it a full examination, a forensic exam?

MALIM: We have done that, yes.

VAN SUSTEREN: Anything peculiar, sir?

MALIM: Nothing right now. Obviously, the stuff is getting sent to the crime lab to evaluate.

He mentions nothing peculiar yet "stuff" is getting sent to the crime lab for evaluation. Wonder what they sent to test thats suspicious enough to send for testing yet not peculiar....
