GA - LaTosha Taylor, 26, burned alive, Macon, 7 Aug 2005

Jomekia Pope, a 29-year-old who has a history of domestic abuse, faces charges of aggravated assault and arson stemming from a horrific assault Sunday at his ex-girlfriend's home.

Latosha Taylor, 26, was in critical condition undergoing her third surgery Wednesday, her stepfather Harold Banks said. Taylor suffered second- and third-degree burns on more than 95 percent of her body.

Taylor, who has two children, Jada, 4, and Elicia, 8, worked two jobs, one as a nurse's assistant in Macon, and also took classes during the week to provide for her family.

Macon City Police Sgt. Cornelius Pendleton said the couple got into an argument Sunday regarding their relationship. Pope then poured gasoline on Taylor and the bed before lighting the fire, Pendleton said.

Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Another one? Who says domestic violence shouldn't be taken more seriously...not me. This is a pattern that goes on and on. It takes victims left and right......

    LaTosha's story, from August 2012:

For Arleshia Pettigrew, Tuesday night will mark seven years since she rushed to The Medical Center of Central Georgia -- the hospital where she’d given birth to Taylor 26 years earlier.

On the drive to the hospital, she remembers thinking that it must have been just a simple burn, nothing too serious.

But the doctors soon broke the news: Taylor had just a 5 percent chance of survival, but to have even that chance, they had to get her to a burn center in Augusta. She died 55 days later.
    From January 2013:

A Macon man, who pleaded guilty to setting his girlfriend on fire, was sentenced Wednesday to life without the possibility of parole.
