DETROIT - A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot Saturday night on Detroit's west side.

The shooting happened in the 3200 block of Hazelwood Street, which is south of Joy Road...

...Hours later, and several miles south and east of that incident, on the 3200 block of Hazelwood, the 15-year-old girl was shot in her right shoulder while standing on her porch at about 9:10 p.m, police said.

Police said the girl was standing on her porch when a black vehicle drove by. Someone in the vehicle fired a shot, striking the girl.

A .22 caliber shell casing was found inside the girl’s home, with a blood trail leading from the front door. EMS took the girl to the Henry Ford Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition...

NOPE. She didn't get shot from a passing car. There is no way possible for the shell casing to get from the car into the house. It can only be ejected from the gun chamber and only for a couple feet.

"Her statement is not matching up with the scene just yet," Capt. John Svec said. "She said she was standing outside looking at the scene. That's not what happened.
The teen does not live in the area. Police said she was visiting someone.
Sources said she was inside the house with another person, who is believed to be her boyfriend. But with the teen not cooperating, she might be protecting someone."

Teen shot on porch on normally quiet Detroit block

Detroit The west side street where a 15-year-old girl was shot while standing on her porch was described by most neighbors on Sunday as tight-knit with a mix of children who play basketball in the street and elderly who have anchored the block for decades.

Neighbors on the 3200 block of Hazelwood, between Dexter and Wildemere, said Saturdays shooting of the teen was not the norm.

The Jacksons, who raised three children on the block, said while the area has its challenges they felt comfortable enough to move onto Hazelwood 15 years ago. The couple said there seemed to be a child in each house which fostered a friendly neighborhood...
