DETROIT - An Amber Alert has been issued for a 13-year-old Detroit boy whom police say might have been kidnapped.

A short time later, police say the cousin heard Deontae had been grabbed by a black male in a 2002 Chevy Impala and was being held against his will.

Authorities describe the suspect as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 175 lbs. He is said to be around 40 years old. His 2002 Chevy Impala is also said to have a loud muffler.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. He may be carrying a .22 caliber pistol.

A short time later, the cousin got information that Mitchell had been grabbed by a black male in a 2002 Chevy Impala and was being held against his will, according to police.

“We did learn that the owner has some child care issues, which we understand, so I asked the gentleman I said, ‘Well maybe since you’re the manager and you have access, could you allow us to come in earlier? This is a critical case,'” said Craig. The owner agreed and eventually gave investigators the videotapes from two cameras.

“He wants to work with us and so we hopefully will be able to get some information that will bring some closure,” said Craig.

the BBM is curious to me. Got information from who? Have LE been able to interview the person who relayed that information?

Found out why I didn't receive the Amber Alert on my phone (I live in MI) was because the police didn't have a plate number. It was on my local news and was running as a banner on a show I am watching

After I posted the *Amber Alert* information this morning, I left the house and was gone for several hours. Kept hearing updates about the missing teen on WWJ radio. The latest is that DM and his cousin arrived at the party store on a bike that is nowhere to be found :waitasec:

...Police said Mitchell's cousin told them a drunk man dropped some money while urinating outside the market, and Mitchell picked it up. The two left the market on bikes, but the cousin said Mitchell was then grabbed by a black man in a black or dark blue 2002 Chevy Impala, police said. The Impala had a loud muffler.

“All we know is that he came to the story and he was kidnapped,” said Mitchell’s cousin, Aniesha Hodge. “A grown man snatched him off his bike, and our other little cousin ran off running asking for help.” ...

Also,

"Nothing’s off the table at this point," (Sgt. Michael) Woody said shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday. "We’re just now getting into the store to review the surveillance video."

The department is asking media to hold off on releasing footage until it is processed by officials, Woody said. Store owners are "fully cooperating" with the investigation.

"We’ll have it processed and ready to be released (this afternoon)," he said. "If there’s any evidentiary images on there, we have to preserve that. In other words, we don’t want to rush out and release a video that could potentially send a suspect on the run before we’ve had the chance to identify him."

Police hope the video might show the kidnapping, Woody said.

"The hope is that we’ll find something on there,” he said."

hes 13 what is he doing hanging outside a liquor store at 10:30????? ugh I hope he is ok :( this sounds bad.

^ I wondered that, too, especially since school is still in session across Michigan. In fact, due to days missed during the teacher "sickout", Detroit schools are probably in session until at least mid-June.

what is he holding?????

where is the urgency here? this sounds horrible. it is clearly not family. he was out late for someone of his age :(

I think it's being speculated that he's carrying/holding a .22 caliber pistol.

This kid! Outside so late in a sketchy place! Terrified for him...

oh my gosh, I wonder if these kids happened to be outside while an armed robbery was happening? Or shakedown for protection? Could the money dropped have been something illegal that had just transpired within the convenience store?

Just a thought I had- what if the money was dropped for the man and the kids picked it up unknowingly.. Could have pissed this guy off and been motive. JMO
