Murder suspect denied new attorney prior to not guilty plea

A woman charged in connection with a fatal shooting over the summer was denied a new attorney before she pleaded not guilty during a hearing Wednesday afternoon.

Emily Belle Tucker, 22, is charged with first degree homicide, robbery, theft, and conspiracy to commit homicide, robbery and theft, according to court documents.

Her co-defendants, Ryan Horton and Christian Harris, already entered not guilty pleas by waiving their arraignments in county court. Since Tucker was also requesting a new attorney, she appeared in person before Franklin County Judge Jeremiah Zook to enter her not guilty plea.

Tucker, Horton and Harris are next due in court on December 15.

Ryan Horton, accused of killing Edward Gilhart, 60, had a pretrial conference where it was determined his case was not yet ready for trial.

Horton, 27, is accused of luring Gilhart to a stopped vehicle on Buchanan Trail West, robbing him, then shooting him. Christian Sage Harris, 20, and Emily Belle Tucker, 22, are considered conspirators in the case, but both have already testified against Horton so he will likely be tried alone.

Trial in roadside robbery, murder to occur in late winter

Trial dates are being discussed between the prosecution and Ryan Horton only. Although there are no plea agreements currently listed for Emily Belle Tucker and Christian Sage Harris, both testified against Horton during early preliminary hearings.

After an October hearing, both sides were looking to have the trial in late January or late February, but there were conflicts with both times.

Monday, the sides agreed to try to schedule the trial for four days in late February or mid-March.
