A Somali man accused of leading mass executions and torturing people during the country’s bloody civil war in the 1980s has been quietly working as a security guard at a Washington, D.C., airport for the past six years – all while passing FBI and TSA checks.

Yusuf Abdi Ali, who is living in Alexandria, Va., is an employee at the Dulles International Airport.

The airport authority also said they are aware that Ali – who is now on administrative leave -- was named in a lawsuit filed by a human rights group in 2006 for crimes against humanity.

I was thinking the same thing. Not even sure what to say. Just wow. SMH
I am flying in August, but I think after this trip I may give it up. It's not about letting terrorists win, it's about my lack of confidence in safety measures. I'm telling myself there is a difference.

They can't even vet airport security properly. And they want us to believe they can vet thousands of so-called refugees?

something like this happens, meanwhile there are people out there with petty criminal charges who can not get a job, unbelievable

Congress asks how accused war criminal became airport guard

I am trying to post a link to the Congress' CNN story but it keeps transferring to video. here is the link: http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/07/politics/ accused-war-criminal-airport-guard-congress/index.html

I was reading an article a few weeks back and it said more terrorists here who have plotted attacks against us have come from Somalia. One that I remember in the article had been here since 1993. So they hide in plain sight for years or decades all the while plotting and planning inside of their homes to attack us here on our soil.

The TSA is a disaster. Their failure to detect bombs and other weapons is unbelievably high. No one should ever believe the government when they try to pretend they have it all covered and are protecting us from those who wish us harm. It is like every security department in the federal government is inept beyond comprehension. Its quite obvious that they really don't vet this refugees. They just seem to pass them through like a herd of cattle instead. Just like when they think we will believe the lies they putout when they say most of the refugees are just women and children when all one has to do is look at the mass of people to know most of them are healthy young men who should be fighting in their own country instead of coming here. And tragically women can be deadly terrorists too.

The federal government seems to get their panties in a wad because most of the American people feel they aren't safe and the government is really doing pretty much nothing to see we are secure either. Those at the airports should all be fired because of their dismal failures in being able to even detect bombs, firearms or other weapons.

It isn't a question of IF it going to happen again because another large terrorist attack is going to happen again.

Snipped & BBM. The security theater that is the TSA is worse than no security at all, IMO. It creates a false sense of security, inconveniences everyone, costs millions of dollars, and doesn't improve our security or safety at all.

Exactly. They make the fliers wait for hours on end yet they cant even find bombs or other weapons 95% of the time. What company would allow workers to still work there if their failure rate was at 95%? No company would but with this administration ineptness seems to be a requirement instead of a detriment. I don't think I have ever seen the federal government as inept as it is now in every department. If the feds have anything to do with it .....it turns to crap whether it is security agencies, the VA, healthcare or State Department or the IRS, etc. Every one of them has had scandals of some sort. Its shameful how much the taxpayers have to payout for incompetence and corruption.

Israel has one of the safest airports in the world. Why don't we model our security after theirs? Oh I guess some would be offended to see police officers walking around with AK-47s so they could really stop a terrorist. Gah....something has got to change and soon. THIS administration is making us all into sitting ducks.

It is easy to find crimes committed by people in your own locality. Obviously, we have no ability to do sufficient background checks of overseas arrivals.

Because it is a smaller setting and they profile. We are too intimidated to do that.

Um, I don't think TSA started with this administration,

OBE, your posts are right on the mark! What will it take for the major changes needed in this government to take place?

With passing time, we, the citizens, are seeing that our government is blowing smoke where our safety is concerned. With all the rules initiated at airports, nothing can be achieved when a government agency, TSA, has an enemy agent working for them, and aware of his background!

All employees who are decision makers and are aware of this situation need to be fired ASAP. It must be against employment policy! Why was Ali put on administrative leave? What kind of picture or precedent are we showing our fellow countrymen? Now that we know there is one employed in TSA, how many more terrorists are employed by our government?. We have suspected it, but knowing it and knowing his background was known, is a bit much to swallow.

Unfortunately, I suspect quite a few. If they helped us/govt./military at any point, terrorist or not, they could very well have ended up here and, possibly working for a govt. agency. No, I'm not a paranoid militia member, I just grew up with a parent who was a civilian under govt. contract. Some of the things I heard/learned growing up...:gaah:

Its not about the TSA nor is it about Ali, and it doesn't matter who the President of the United States is, its how war and the Pentagon works. It just is. IMO.

Since WW2, over and over again. Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, and the countless engagements in the Middle East. It is about America's obsession with the Soviet Union/Russia.

For example:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/somali-war-crime-fifth-estate-1.3424262

Prior to the fall of the Siad Barre regime, for which he had worked, Ali went to the U.S. on a diplomatic visa where he received American military training.

When the Somali regime fell in 1991, he came to Canada, claiming to be a refugee.

Before the war, Ali was a graduate of the Pentagon's program for foreign officers. At the time of the armed uprising against Siad Barre in the late 1980s, America was braced by the Cold War and, in an effort to keep a country like Somalia away from Soviet influence, it was willing to support and arm Somalia's military dictatorship, despite its blatant disregard for human rights.

And

http://www.nytimes.com/1995/01/03/o...own-dictator-mohammed-siad-barre-is-dead.html

On Oct. 21, 1969, shortly after the President, Dr. Abdirashid Ali Shermarke, was assassinated by a police officer in a factional quarrel, General Siad Barre led a successful and bloodless coup. Assuming power, he espoused "scientific socialism," arguing there was no inconsistency with the principles of Islam, and turned to the Soviet Union for support.

In 1977, his army invaded the disputed Ogaden area of southeastern Ethiopia. At about the same time, Ethiopia split with the United States and became more closely aligned with the Soviet Union. With the help of Cuban troops and billions of dollars' worth of Soviet weapons, the Ethiopians turned back the Somalis in 1978.

General Siad Barre denounced the Russians and turned to the United States. Somalia received military and economic aid from the United States for a promise of American use of the port of Berbera on the Gulf of Aden. But aid declined drastically as allegations of human rights abuses rose. In 1989, Somalia revived contacts with Libya.
