Canada - Dead baby found in garbage dumpster, London, Ont, 16 June 2016

Police in London are investigating after the body of a deceased baby was found in a garbage dumpster.

The body was found in a dumpster in the Richmond Street and Mill Street area at around 11:35 a.m.

...The initial discovery was made by a man who frequently looks for food in the dumpster, behind a plaza at 657 Richmond Street, the worker said.

That man alerted him, he said, to a black bag in one of four large blue dumpsters used by residents of an apartment building populated mainly by post-secondary students.

Police confirmed Saturday that a person had been arrested.

There's no word on charges, and police say they'll release more information as the investigation continues.

It is not known what caused the child’s death, and police say results from medical testing and an autopsy will take weeks or months to arrive. Investigators say they believe the baby's body was placed in the dumpster on Thursday.

Investigators say the mother of the child was found in Amherstberg, Ont., more than 200km away from where the baby’s body was found, and arrested Saturday morning.
