A car linked to the fatal stabbing of a South Australian man four years ago is buried in the state's far north-east, police say.

Jayson Doelz, 27, was bashed and stabbed to death in January 2012, and his body was located two days later near Kersbrook in the Adelaide Hills.

At a media conference, SA police said they now had an "extremely" good understanding of the circumstances of Mr Doelz's death.

From last month:

A Pooraka property, in Adelaide's north-east, is being searched by police in connection to the 2012 stabbing death of a man in the Adelaide Hills...

Detective Superintendent Des Bray said the property in Royal Avenue had been identified as the location where Mr Doelz was badly beaten by a group of people before his murder...

Police believe Mr Doelz was "forcibly abducted" and identified the vehicle used as a black 'FG' Ford Falcon ZR6 sedan with horizontal stripes along the side and a number plate starting with S.

Outback shed linked to cold case murder of SA man Jayson Doelz
by 9 News
1:21am July 19, 2016

'A shed in outback South Australia has been linked to the cold case murder of young father Jayson Doelz.

The building in Innamincka, nearly 1000km north-east of Adelaide, is believed to have built above the burnt wreckage of a car used to transport Mr Doelz.'

'Detectives, led by a tip-off, believe a black Ford sedan used in the murder was burnt and buried in a rubbish tip in the rural town, before the shed was constructed above it.

Before being torched, police believe the car was stored in various locations, including Greenwith, Andrews Farm, Blakeview, Paralowie and a shipping container in Burton.'

'Police have also revealed details on two persons of interest in Mr Doelz’s murder.

Both have links to outlaw motorcycle gangs – the Comancheros and the Rebels – and both are currently behind bars on unrelated convictions.

But Mr Doelz’s death is not believed to be a bikie-related hit.'

'The shed is now being analysed to see how the buried car can be retrieved.

Police say the owners of the Innamincka property have no connection to the murder.'

'There is no physical evidence connecting a woman to the cold case murder of Jayson Doelz in 2012 despite her charges, the Adelaide Magistrates Court has heard.'

'The court heard the woman from Adelaide's north was asked to clean the house and did so out of fear.

Her lawyer told the court there was no physical evidence of his client's involvement, arguing that her name had been put forward by a witness who had their own motives for doing so.'

'The woman and two of the men will appear in court again on Friday when Magistrate Bob Harrap will hand down his decision on whether to grant them home detention bail.'

'Mr Harrap ordered their identities be suppressed while police conduct identification procedures as part of ongoing investigations.'

"It was located in the last 10 days."

The knife was found near a house in which one of the accused men used to live, the prosecutor said.

Adelaide man Jayson Doelz murdered by three others in dispute over sunglasses, court hears

‘A man who was badly beaten and put into the boot of a car over a missing pair of designer sunglasses was chased down and murdered by three men when he tried to escape, the Supreme Court has heard.

The body of Jayson Doelz, 27, was found on the side of a country road outside Kersbrook in the Adelaide Hills in January 2012.

Chad Badcock, 30, Kym Wayne Barnes, 32, and Shane Matthew Muckray, 29, are jointly charged with Mr Doelz's murder and are standing trial.

The Supreme Court heard the case went unsolved for years until police made a breakthrough in their investigations last year.

Opening the trial, prosecutor Emily Telfer SC told the jury Mr Doelz, who associated with drug users and suppliers, was lured to a house in Pooraka, where he was restrained and repeatedly beaten.

She said while lapsing in and out of consciousness he was bundled into the boot of a car where he was struck in the face with a shovel and kicked.

The court heard while being driven from Pooraka to the Adelaide Hills, Mr Doelz opened the boot and tried to escape, but during his last attempt at freedom he was chased down.

"It is alleged on the prosecution case that he was chased down by the three men in the dock, he was assaulted again and he was stabbed in the head, neck and the buttock," Ms Telfer said.

The court heard the three accused then got back into the car and "boasted" and "big-noted" about the injuries they inflicted saying "I got him here" and "I got him there" and "I got him in the head, that means he's *advertiser censored**ed".’

SA jury convicts Kim Wayne Barnes, Shane Matthew Muckray and Chad Badcock of murdering Jayson Doelz in 2012 - December 7th

On Friday, a jury of seven women and five men took less than two hours to convict Kim Wayne Barnes, Shane Matthew Muckray and Chad Badcock of murder.

They found it proven, beyond reasonable doubt, the trio abducted, tortured and killed Jayson Doelz over a dispute prompted by a missing pair of designer sunglasses.

The verdicts guarantee the men — who denied any wrongdoing, and claimed eyewitnesses to the crime were “confessed liars” — will receive maximum life sentences.

SA murder victim's family tells of grief

The sister of an Adelaide man who suffered 80 separate injuries in a murder sparked by a missing pair of sunglasses has told a court she is haunted by her brother's "torturous" final hours.

Mr Doelz's sister, Symone Doelz, broke down as she delivered a victim impact statement in the South Australian Supreme Court on Friday .

"It is killing me, every single day, living and knowing what hideous things were done to him over all those hours," she said.

"I cannot even begin to understand how he would have felt."

Sentencing is scheduled for March 13th.

Today, Justice David Lovell described the murder as "violent, cowardly, prolonged and inhumane" and said the trio had "no semblance of normal human emotion".

The remorseless ringleader Chad Badcock - who is still denying any role in the murder - was handed a non-parole term of 29 years, but he'll have to serve a total of 32 and a half years, because of unexpired parole from other offending.

Kym Barnes was sentenced to a minimum of 26 years.

The judge accepted Shane Muckray was the "lesser of three evils" and ordered he serve the mandatory minimum sentence for murder of 20 years.

Family members of a murder victim have cheered and embraced in an Adelaide courtroom as three men convicted over the killing were each given life sentences.

Outside court on Tuesday, Mr Doelz's sister, Symone Doelz, said the family were pleased the legal process had finished.

"Jayson's family do not feel that any sentence, besides never being released, will be long enough, although we are very happy with the result today," she said.

"It was just good to see them be known for what they are and get what they deserve."

SA court dismisses murderer's appeal

An Adelaide murderer who insists he had no part in bashing and stabbing a man to death has had an appeal against his conviction dismissed.

A jury last year found Chad Badcock and two other men guilty of killing Jayson Doelz, whose body was found badly beaten on the side of a country road in 2012.

In the South Australian Court of Criminal Appeal on Monday, an appeal against the verdict was dismissed after the full court found the evidence of two prosecution witnesses could be accepted.
