Seven people have been injured after a rollercoaster crashed off the rails at a theme park in North Lanarkshire.
Six ambulances and six fire engines are at the M&D's park near Strathclude Park in Motherwell after being called at 15:37.
A number of specialist officers are also at the park, which has been evacuated.
An eyewitness said: "People were trapped upside down on the ride."
Emergency services said the incident involving the Tsunami ride was ongoing.

Oh no! It sounds like two rides are involved..........

A rollercoaster has derailed and crashed into a children's ride at a Scottish theme park.

The girl was on carriage the Tsunami rollercoaster just before the disaster - and was one carriage away from adding her name to the list of casualties.
The shocked girl said: “It just collapsed - all you saw was it fall.

“All these people were trapped under it. It landed on these motorbikes for toddlers, I don’t know if there were any on them at the time.

Prayers for all involved.

Oh god, I hate rollercoasters and this is exactly why. Hope that, somehow, everyone involved is ok :(

"Three children were seriously hurt when a rollercoaster flew off the rails and crashed at a theme park.

Five other kids and two adults were also injured after a carriage shot off at 40mph and plummeted on to a children’s ride below.

Horrified families tried to free people from the wreckage of the Tsunami ride at M&D’s Theme Park in Motherwell.

The accident at the Motherwell park happened just after 3.30pm. It is believed nine people were on the ride at the time."

This is awful but not a shock I've been here numerous times and the rides are getting old and rusting. It's a miracle nobody died. Due to my spinal issues and disability I don't go on them any more. My family normally go and see the animals in Amazonia, go to the arcade or the bowling. It's interesting the ride was shut yesterday for maintenance. The Health and Safety Executive has to go in and find out how this happened and look at the other rides. I've read from an eye witness who was there a child's hand was crushed and they might have lost it. I wish all the injured a speedy recovery. It will be interesting to see how this happened.

<rsbm> You're the third person I've read saying the same thing about the condition of the rides, the others on FB. It's been a long time since I was there.

Sky News just reported there was a problem with this same ride, the Tsunami, in 2011. Nine people were trapped for around eight hours then. WTH? The Alton Towers' crash should have ensured greater H&S vigilance at every theme park. Whoever's responsible for Health & Safety at M&D's is in deep chit. The pictures I saw were horrific, my initial reaction was loss of life. Thank heavens it's not. I hope that little mite's hand is able to be saved. It sounds like there were some serious injuries though, awful. :(

ETA: I can't link for some reason. STV news page on FB has many comments saying similar to you, except you're way more polite .....

"A distraught mum has revealed how her toddler was 'inches from death' as the Tsunami rollercoaster crashed to the ground around him at M&D's theme park.

Amy Thomas, 24, watched in horror as pieces of the ride flew through the air 'just two feet away' from her three-year-old son Dylan's head yesterday.

She says the youngster was on a small green motorbike - part of a children's ride beneath the towering coaster - when disaster struck at about 3.40pm.

As he sat happily on the bike, the Tsunami came off its tracks 20 feet above him and plummeted to the ground with terrified riders onboard."

Thank God the ride missed this little boy it is a miracle it did.

Thanks ScotAng for your post I've read loads of comments too about the rides at the park people are rightly very angry. I wonder what the future of the park is if this is determined to be a poor maintenance issue. Business is likely to be down at the park for a considerable time.

"Douglas Taylor, director of M&D’s has released a longer statement this afternoon, in an attempt to address many questions being posed by the public about safety at the popular Lanarkshire park.

M&D's said the Tsunami ride had been closed on Saturday due to a "minor electrical fault" but was "fully operational" when the park opened on Sunday.

Mr Taylor said, “Our thoughts are with the people who have been injured and their families. We hope everyone makes a full recovery.

“We’re co-operating fully with the joint HSE and Police Scotland investigation. It would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of the accident until the investigation is complete.

“Each and every ride within the theme park is safety checked on a daily basis and undergoes thorough independent inspection every 12 months. Tsunami had its annual independent safety inspection in early June.

“My brother Matthew and I have been in business together for 50 years and this is the first incident of this type that we’ve ever been involved in. We are devastated as both a family and a business, and our heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by the accident.”
