A 25-year-old Nashville mother of two was trying to shield a small child from a gunman last week when she was mortally wounded by a bullet intended for someone else, a Metro detective testified yesterday.

The new details of last week's murder of Natalie Madison emerged at a preliminary hearing for two men accused in her death. It turns out that the two men were targeting the wrong man, mistakenly thinking he was the one who had robbed them two weeks earlier, the detective said.

Madison was sitting on a chair outside her apartment when she saw the armed man coming toward her and a group of people outside the A building of the Litton Park Apartments in east Nashville, Metro detective Jeff Wiser said.

"She stood up, and a small child was there, and according to all the witnesses, she actually got up when she saw the gunman running and tried to protect the child from the gunman, and she was hit in the chest."

What a senseless crime. I hope that the city of Nashville gives some type of award to this young woman's family in honor of her. She definitely is a hero.

It would also be nice if the city would reward the family with a little $$$ to help raise her two children she left behind.

This is so sad.

The story of a true hero! How sad that she had to loose her life and her children have lost their mother. Someday I hope they will have comfort in knowing what a brave and unselfish person she was. God bless them all!
