I'm thinking this poor child had been abused and neglected all of his life. A 4yo mistaken for a 9mo - 2yo?

For about a year, the frail 4-year-old boy was kept in a back room with the family’s bicycles and the putrid smell of his own urine, prosecutors said in court on Thursday.

His screams of “Let me out” were either ignored or met with a beating, witnesses told police.

The boy’s mother, 27-year-old Alyssa Garcia, along with a 17-year-old boy and another friend of the mother, have been charged with concealing the boy's death.

Garcia’s head hung low at a court hearing Thursday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. The judge ordered her held in lieu of $2 million bail. Bail was set at $1 million for the 19-year-old friend Christian Camarena. The 17-year-old is being charged as a juvenile.

The state Department of Children and Family Services had prior contact with Garcia, who recently gave birth to premature twins. In 2012, she was sentenced to 18 months supervision for endangering the life of a child.

Heartrending. :(

Santini spoke in court of the horrific abuse Manuel allegedly endured before his death. He was beaten with a shoe, given a black eye and was “so skinny that his ribs were showing,” Santini said. Witnesses told police they would rarely see him eat, and there were days when he was not fed, Santini said.

Manuel often would hide his feces in the room in fear of Garcia beating him, Santini said. The boy would have to knock on the door to be allowed to go to the bathroom and was often completely naked because he would urinate on himself, Santini said.

Prosecutors said when Garcia saw that her son wasn’t breathing on July 29, she didn’t seek medical attention for him because she feared DCFS would take her kids away again.

One of his siblings checked for a heartbeat and pulse and determined that he had died, Santini said.

Poor child. Hopefully, this will be the start of a better life for the other children.

Candice Perez, who is the mother of Camarena and a neighbor of Garcia’s, said she and her son tried to help the children.

“We have brought those kids to our house, we have fed them, we were there for them,” Perez said. “Just because they weren’t our kids and just because they weren’t related to us, we treated them the same way we would any of our other kids. Even the little boy.”

Perez said she took pictures of Manuel’s legs and body and wishes that she had called DCFS earlier.

“We’re just as guilty as anybody else because had I called DCFS, would this be happening right now? Probably not,” she said. “But I was thinking about the kids and didn’t want them all to be taken. But I should have. I should have made a selfish decision and said, ‘you know what? They all got to go,’ because ultimately, would this be happening?”

Why don't people speak up? I will NEVER understand. Sickening!!

UGGHHHH....wish I had not read all of that tragically horrifying stuff tonight. GRRRRRRRR....I hope these monsters never see the light of day after treating that poor baby that way. :jail:

Oh dear Lord. That poor baby.
I don't understand how a mom/woman/parent pick on a child and make their life miserable. I don't get it how that could be possible.

My soul grows weary and my heart sick. Case after case after case. It never ends. Ever. No words could ever describe how angry and sad each of these cases make me. How that poor little guy sufffered. How so many are right now suffering in basements and closets and backrooms. A river of tears for these babies.

And nothing but disgust and rage for the monsters who continue to systematically destroy their own through torture, neglect and abuse.

I am so sorry Manny. So very sorry. Fly high far from all the pain this life showed you.

Was Manuel's last name Garcia? This child was made to be invisible when not being tortured. I want to make sure his proper name is on this thread title

This reminds me so much of Gabriel Fernandez. I like to believe they are no longer afraid, no longer in pain, free and playing happily all day every day in heaven!

Makes me sick. She is no mother! Hell they were taken in 2012 and she only got them back last year?

Were they all treated like animals or just poor Manny? What, did she hate his dad more than the other kid's dads? Was he the only boy?

This is disgusting.

Mom, 2 Others Arrested After Police Find Burned Body of 4-Year-Old So Small They Thought He Was an Infant

There is a video of Manny

A Chicago mother has been arrested after authorities allegedly discovered the burned body of her 4-year-old son, who reportedly sometimes went days without being fed and was so tiny that investigators thought he was a 9-month-old baby.

Before his death, Manuel Aguilar, 4, was allegedly kept in a back storage room that constantly smelled of urine and feces, often was allegedly forced to remain completely naked because he would urinate on himself, suffered alleged beatings that once resulted in a black eye, and was so skinny that his ribs were showing, according to Cook County prosecutors.

"Let me out," he would allegedly scream because "Manny didn't like being in the back room," according to heartbreaking details of the case revealed in court Thursday by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.
