Paul Ussing Storm
Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Case# 80-0130
NamUs Case # 22812
Paul Ussing Storm was a 48 year old white male from Santa Rosa CA. He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed 155 pounds, and was wearing blue Levi jeans and an orange and brown plaid jacket when last seen.
On the afternoon of 13 January 1980, he was accompanied by a 35 year old female companion, also from Santa Rosa CA. At about 3 PM, they were strolling along Heeser Drive. (Sources erroneously describe this drive as being in Fort Bragg; actually, it is in the tourist town of Mendocino, as can be seen by the map below.)
When his date slipped atop a bluff, Paul tried to prevent her fall to rocks below. Instead, he lost his balance and they both fell. The woman was knocked unconscious, with serious head injuries. She came to, to find the only sign of Paul was his jacket floating in the ocean.
An unsuccessful search was launched by the Sheriff's Office, the state parks department, and the Fort Brag fire department. Paul is believed drowned. Barbara was treated at Coastal Community Hospital. Ukiah Daily Journal, 14 March 1980, https://www.newspapers.com/image/5060331/?terms=Storm
