Akira Taniguchi
MCSO Case # 14-3718
Date of birth: 28 April 1976

Asian male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weight 195 pounds, brown hair and black eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. He was driving a blue 2007 Honda CRV (tag number in my files).

He was last seen by his wife in Newark CA, on 6 October 2014. After that sighting, he did not return either cell phone calls or texts, and messages went direct to his voicemail. He was making suicidal statements before he left, and is considered At Risk. His wife reported him missing later on 6 October.

At 8 PM on 12 October 2014, someone called the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office to report that a vehicle had been parked in a scenic vista by mile marker 10.5 on Highway 1,the Shoreline Highway, in Gualala CA. Deputies responded, but the resultant search was cut short by darkness.

A search the following day by air and marine assets of the U.S. Coast Guard, Redwood Coast Fire Department members, and deputies failed to find any sign of Akira Taniguchi.

Akira Taniguchi can be seen at the MCSO Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MendocinoS...56614137966/10152388553577967/?type=1&theater

A local Facebook page *advertiser censored* news website portrays Akira's Honda: https://www.facebook.com/mendocinosportsplus/posts/732890420125111

Newark's “Tri-City Voice” does not cover his disappearance. An identical article is run by MSCO, and two local newspapers: the “Anderson Valley Advertiser”; http://theava.com/archives/36077, and the “Ukiah Daily Journal”; http://www.ukiahdailyjournal.com/article/ZZ/20141018/NEWS/141018050

Information about this case may be called in to the Newark Police Dept at 510-578-44237, or more specifically, to Officer Losier at 510-578-4963 extension 101. Another contact for tips is the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, at 707-234-2100.

After mulling it over, I have decided to run the link to the "Tri-City Voice" to show that Akira's Missing Person Report is indeed missing: http://www.tricityvoice.com/articlefiledisplay.php?issue=2014-10-14&file=NewarkLog+327TS+++TCV.txt

There just may be a jurisdictional issue here. Akira's car was found just barely within Mendocino County. Akira wasn't local. And Mendocino has always had a LE staffing shortage.

I have found nothing about the missing week of Akira's life, from the 6th to the 12th. There is nothing on tracing his cell phone, financials, or any of the standard investigative procedures.

I feel this case really needs a Bay Area Websleuth to work it, as I am out of my bailiwick down there.

Though there is no direct news concerning Akira, there is some indirect information.

CalTrans has been excavating around the Albion Bridge, as part of efforts to replace it. Interestingly enough, there is no report of human remains being found. This would seem to indicate that Akira went into the river itself instead of landing on solid earth. Given that this is a tidal river, one has to wonder which way the tide was flowing what Akira apparently jumped. The CalTrans work is noted in this article:

Missing Person was last contacted on 10/06/2014. On 10/14/2014. MP's vehicle was located at the scenic overlook called Saunders Reef in Mendocino County. The Coast Guard did a sweep of the water at the time, but was not able to locate the MP.
