Earlier today, Stacy Stanley's family attended at a press conference about another missing woman that had been rescued from a house with 2 bodies in it.
As it turned out, the woman found was not their loved one and Stacy is still missing.

Stacy Stanley, 43, has been missing since last Thursday night, September 8, 2016 around 10 p.m. She was last seen at the BP/Duke & Duchess on East Main Street in Ashland where she was seen with a male helping change her flat tire on her 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
At this time police officials are reviewing the security camera at the BP station where Stanley went missing.

Stacy's family upset about investigation:

ASHLAND - Family members and neighbors of two area missing women said they had more questions than answers as they left a press conference Tuesday, where authorities announced they had found the remains of two unidentified people in a house on Covert Court near downtown.

During the press conference, family members questioned police Chief Dave Marcelli, claiming his department and officers from Huron County did not take seriously the reports of missing women until the bodies were found. Marcelli did not answer their questions, and prior to the press conference said the event was for media only. The chief asked the family to leave, but family members and neighbors refused.
....

Veronica Stanley said the family began searching in the area of the Covert Court home and another vacant house next door on their own before police began investigating at the scene.

The family and friends say they believe their persistence in knocking on the door of the home rattled the man police eventually took into custody, and allowed an abducted woman to call 911 using the man’s cellphone.

Charles Stanley has been searching for his missing daughter Stacey who family hasn't heard from since last Thursday when she called just blocks away from the crime scene saying she had car trouble.

"My last conversation with her was about a tire. I mean I'll never get to see my mom again and I can't take that back," Kurtis Stanley said.
Stacey 's son Kurtis and others canvassed downtown Ashland with missing persons flyers.

One is still prominently displayed at the laundromat right across from 365 Covert Court where friends of another missing woman named Elizabeth and those who knew Stacy are gathering, hoping their worst fears aren't confirmed when the two bodies found inside are identified.

From that link, Stacey's son Kurtis said "My last conversation with her was about a tire. I mean I'll never get to see my mom again and I can't take that back," .

He's assuming she's dead already?

He was probably thinking she could be one of the 2 dead bodies found in house with the missing woman rescued alive (see the second link in post#2). Press were interviewing him close to that house and police were not giving much info to family members of missing women form the area.

I simply cannot imagine what this family is going through. From the Press conference last night it seemed as if no one would listen to them and take the disappearance serious. I would hope that was not the case, only time will tell.

Oh how sad! At least her family will have closure now. After all they went through... and it appears they helped catch her murderer and stop him from killing another woman.

Oh So much for the bodies being too old to be Stacey then. Looks like they spoke too soon and gave Stacey's family hope when there was none.

What does he mean they saved her life and were banging on the door?

He means they saved the life of the other abducted woman. Stacey's family had a tip that someone matching Grate's description stopped to help Stacey with a flat tire the day she went missing. They tracked him down to that area and they were going door-to-door with her missing poster and checking abandoned buildings. Her family believes they "rattled" Grate into making a mistake and Grate forgot to hide his cell phone. The abducted woman got a hold of it to call 911 when Grate fell asleep. There's a whole long complicated thread about this case now: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sho...dison-*ARREST*

Some interviews with Stacey's family:
"Stacey was a sweetheart," said her aunt Marlene Stanley. "She would give you anything she had. She was a kind, kind soul. For what she had to go through, it's heart-wrenching. And as a family member, all of us out here looking for her, she was right there."

Stacey Stanley was identified Wednesday afternoon by the Ashland County Coroner. No cause of death has been determined.
"We just saved that girl's life," said Ronald Stanley, Stacey Stanley's uncle. "My niece's son was banging on that door last night. This guy got rattled. We shook his cage and he got careless. He left his cellphone near where (the woman who was rescued could dial) 911."

Ronald Stanley said family and friends had been looking for his niece since she went missing. Jeana Stanley said her sister didn't deserve to die this way.

"She didn't want to die. She wanted to live. She had a family. She's got grandchildren and boys who miss her and aren't dealing well," said Jeana Stanley. "And this guy who did this to her and these other women? He's a monster."

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to raise $10,000 for the Stacey family.

A year later, Stacey Stanley’s family still dealing with loss - September 2017

http://www.times-gazette.com/news/20170911/year-later-stacey-stanleys-family-still-dealing-with-loss

In a letter Grate sent to to a Cleveland television reporter from NewsNet 5 from jail, Grate wrote that he killed the five women because “they were already dead, just their bodies were flopping wherever it can flop but their minds were already dead! The state took their minds. Once they started receiving their monthly checks.”

One year later, Jeana strongly rejected Grate’s words.

“I tell you for a fact that my sister did not want to die,” Stanley said. “She did not. She would not have left her boys and her family and her grandbaby for nothing. She did not want to die, she wanted to live. I don’t know who he thinks he is to distinguish that. He didn’t know my sister.”

She said she hoped others could get to know her sister as she did.

Attorneys for accused serial killer Shawn Grate have requested funding to the tune of $9,991 for a neurological exam.

The request was filed by attorneys Robert and Rolf Whitney with Ashland County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 1 after their death penalty mitigation specialist requested the exam.

Grate is accused of the aggravated murders of Stacey Stanley and Elizabeth Griffith and has been indicted on 23 felony charges. That includes four counts of aggravated murder, two counts for each victim in Ashland County. Grate is also alleged to have killed three other women, two in Richland County and the fifth in Marion County.
