Though a recent search of a field in western Daviess County for the body of 16-year-old Shannon Rena Green has come up empty, police will continue to work on the case of the Owensboro teenager who has been missing for nearly 20 years.

"I feel confident she was there at one time," Sgt. Mark Saffran with the Owensboro Police Department said about the location investigators searched Friday. "I still feel like the information we have was correct."

I didn't know this site was on the internet until I found it on a search engine. I'm glad people are looking on the net on this case, because I'm wanting the public to actually know how the police messed the case up in the very beginning. I have a personal interest in this because I am Shannon's cousin. We have been waiting 19 years to finally get the answers to our questions. Whoever put it on here. THANK YOU!!!

From October 2011:

http://www.14news.com/story/8250791/unsolved-murders-angie-dickens-shannon-green-and-dewayne-bell

The body of 23-year-old Mary Ethel Dickens of Owensboro was discovered on October 2, 1986, nearly three months after she was reported missing.

So far, no arrests have been made in what police believe was a murder case. Mary Ethel Dickens was called "Angie" by those who knew her and she was one of three people who mysteriously vanished that summer.

Her body was discovered in a cornfield on Lower River Road, 2 1/2 miles West of Owensboro. Due to the condition of the body a definite cause of death could not be determined. As of this date, the case is still pending.

A bombshell tape with an alleged confession is now in the hands of Owensboro investigators, working a series of disappearances dating back to 1986. Angie Dickens, Shannon Green, and Dewayne Bell all disappeared within weeks of each other. Dickens body was later found in a cornfield, but Green and Bell have never been found.

Police at that time focused much of their investigation on one man, John Reneer, a man they said, had a long criminal history and knew all three victims.

In the last couple of days, we've brought you Reneer's account of what happened and we've learned of a tape that he says proves it. Now, Stefanie Silvey continues her investigation into what happened so many years ago, and why now, after nearly two decades are we just learning of this tape. John Reneer says he didn't kill Shannon Green and Angie Dickens, but he says he knows who did...

Holy sheet. This has the markings of a movie. I do hope closure can be had here. This is the first I've ever heard of this one I think. Could someone link the other threads here if they exist? Tia. So who do we think was hiding this tape for Dwayne and David? I assume no has heard from Dwayne since. This case is odder than odd. Looking forward to learning much much more.

Shannon was last seen at approximately 12:30 p.m. in her hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky on July 6, 1986. She was walking from 2nd and Poplar Streets to 12th and Haynes Streets to visit a family friend, John Reneer, who lived approximately two miles from her location at that time. Shannon never arrived at her destination and has not been heard from again.

A few days after Shannon's disappearance, a man who identified himself as "Dwayne" called her mother and said he and Shannon had run away to get married. The caller has never been identified and the message is now thought to be a hoax, possibly made to mislead the investigation.

Another Owensboro teenager, [David Dewayne Bell](http://charleyproject.org/case/david-dewayne-bell?s=09), who was addressed by his middle name, disappeared a few days after Shannon did. They knew each other, and were together at a mutual friend's home the day before she disappeared. Investigators believe the cases may be linked and DeWayne possibly had knowledge of her disappearance.

DeWayne and Shannon's disappearances may be related to the abduction of a 23-year-old woman who disappeared from Owensboro on June 17, 1986. Her body was found near a boat ramp on October 2 of that year. However, no connections have been proven.

Authorities have long suspected that John Reneer was involved in Shannon's case. He is convicted murderer and sex offender and a former friend of the Bell family. He maintains his innocence and claims DeWayne and his father, who was also called David DeWayne Bell and went by David, were involved in Shannon's disappearance. Reneer claims DeWayne confessed to strangling Shannon in 1986 and implicated his father.

Reneer stated he tape-recorded the confession and turned it over to police. The tape was apparently documented in police files but never saved, and records of it were not found until the fall of 2005. Reneer stated he planned to kill DeWayne and David after hearing the confession, but never got a chance to do so. He has passed a lie detector test about his role in Shannon and DeWayne's disappearance.

David, who moved to Arizona shortly after his son's disappearance, maintains his innocence in Shannon's case and stated that he did not believe DeWayne was involved in it either. He theorized that Reneer caused Shannon's disappearance and DeWayne found out about it and was murdered to ensure his silence. Investigators still believe Reneer was complicit in Shannon's disappearance, whether or not the supposed confession is accurate. Authorities also stated David gave inconsistent accounts of the events leading up to DeWayne's disappearance, but he has not been charged in that case or Shannon's.

Shannon was a student at Owensboro High School in 1986; she made good grades and had a steady boyfriend. She was initially thought to be a runaway, but foul play is now suspected in her case. In 2005, authorities searched for her body in a field across the railroad tracks near Kentucky 279. The search turned up no evidence, but investigators feel that Shannon's body was in the field at some point. Her disappearance reNCMC601579c1.jpg mains unsolved NCMC601579e1.jpg

Not mentioned in above: her name is Shannon GREEN.

I think it's funny JR was able to get a recording of DB on the fly. He had no idea he was going to call and ask for money. I think the whole thing stinks badly and I believe LE is aware of that or they would come out and say DB and his father were suspects in this case.
