Austria - 18-year-old sues parents for posting baby pictures on Facebook

An 18-year-old woman from Carinthia is suing her parents over their posting of 500 images of her without her consent. The images were shared with her parents’ 700 Facebook friends. Her father told the news outlet he has rights to the photos because he took them.

The Austria case goes to court in November, and if she does win, parents around the world might be rethinking how they share photos of their children on social media.

Well, I think 500 photos of your child posted online is excessive. But then I have to admit that it would be pretty neat to have a parent so proud of me that they want to share my photos with all their online friends and beyond.

Kid, wake up and smell the coffee, hon! Be thankful that your parents love you, care about you, are proud of you, or whatever emotion(s) guided them to post photos of you. I would give anything to have parents--let alone ones like yours.

Maybe, though not the pictures where she's on the toilet or lying naked on a cot. Her parents need to respect her wishes, too. I would hope the parents and daughter would come to some sort of agreement where the parents can keep maybe two dozen or so photos up on Facebook. It's not worth it to stop talking over something like this. I wonder if she's an only child.

I would not see a nude photo as a bad thing unless it was pornographic. Nudity does not mean that in most baby photos. But I agree, if she asked them to remove certain photos and they refused, there is something going on there besides love and pride. And I do think they posted in huge numbers and that alone to any young person is going to be embarrassing.

I guess the big question is why they posted the photos. Most parents post photos of their kids for the right reasons so who is to say these parents didn't. I hate to see family taking family to court but if there is reason for this young gal to believe her parents acted outside of her best interests then I would support her actions.

Best outcome for this case would be compromise. I wonder why that is not an option which obviously it isn't or it wouldn't be headed to court.

So, this story may not be true. It did seem strange.
