Bjorn+Norderhaug.jpg

Norderhaug's friends had not seen or heard from him since around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

He was last seen at The Corner Bar in Decorah about a mile and a half away from the Luther College campus.

Looking at the map, Bjorn would cross a river on the way back to the college. Wonder if there is any CCTV along the likely route?

Luther College is located about 2 miles from the Corner Bar where Bjorn was last seen. He would have walked over College Drive bridge over the Upper Iowa River on his way back. There was life-threatening flooding in Decorah along the Upper Iowa on August 23-25 and the river is still pretty high. It would not be possible to just fall off the bridge unless someone was climbing on it and lost their balance.

I will add it to my spreadsheet of missing college aged men last seen leaving bars/parties alone found in water. He is number 268 from US/CAN.

The latest on Bjorn.... Sad story...

The Luther College Community is mourning the loss of Luther student Bjorn Norderhaug following the discovery of his body Sunday morning.
Decorah Police Chief Bill Nixon said at this point, foul play is not suspected in the student’s death. Norderhaug was a senior computer science major from the Twin Cities.
Norderhaug’s body was discovered at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Police. The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office received a report of a body located in the Upper Iowa River near Clay Hill Road, outside of Decorah.
Rescue crews with the Decorah Fire Department and the Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance crew were able to recover the body from the river. The Sheriffs Office, with the assistance of the Winneshiek County Medical Examiner's Office, was able to determine the identity as Norderhaug.
Norderhaug was reported missing Saturday at about 6:30 p.m. He was last seen Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1:50 a.m. in the downtown Decorah area. Decorah Police, aided by Luther College staff, immediately began a missing person investigation.
As a continuation of the investigation, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Decorah Police, Decorah Fire Department and Luther College staff conducted an area search along the Upper Iowa River.
“There is nothing that would give that indication (of foul play). We won’t know much until the autopsy is completed. We’ll reserve any comment on what the cause is until then,” Nixon said.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting the autopsy, and Nixon said he probably would have a final report in six to eight weeks.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Decorah Police Department at 563-382-3667.
“I would guess we aren’t going to know what happened in a definitive way. There probably isn’t anyone going to be able to tell us what happened during the time he was unaccounted for,” Nixon said.
