The mother of a battered 6-year-old Harlem boy told investigators she watched her hulking boyfriend beat her son with a wooden broomstick and hang him by his T-shirt from a hook on the bathroom door. Then she placed her dead son on a bed and rested and read the Bible.

The infuriating and sickening details of little Zymere Perkins’ final moments emerged as city investigators launched a probe Wednesday into his death — trying to determine whether a series of past child-care failures sealed his tragic fate.

The Department of Investigation demanded the documents in five previous ACS probes of abuse involving Zymere’s mom (...)

Read this one at work today and had a cry. The details of admissions of abuse by mom herself and her failure to protect this beautiful baby from her boyfriend are so hard to read.

In the complaint released by the District Attorney's office, it says that the mother admitted to hitting her son on numerous occasions and used a broomstick once.

The broom stick was recovered in the building's trash compactor.

Geraldine Perkins was investigated for possible child abuse on five occasions, beginning in June 2010. The latest questioning came just five months ago, when Zymere told a school worker the bruises on his leg occurred when a cousin whacked him with a scooter, a source told The News.

Later that day, Zymere told authorities his mom hit him in the head with a belt, the source said.

The duo was outraged when Miller washed and fed Zymere while his mom and her boyfriend were out partying for Perkins’ July 2015 birthday, according to the victim.

“They jumped me and severely beat me in front of my (1-year-old) son, until my son couldn’t recognize my face,” said Miller, who lived alongside Zymere’s family in a Queens homeless shelter.

Miller was walking her boy in a stroller when the couple attacked, leaving her feeling as terrorized as the lovable little Zymere.

People tried to get this baby help and he was left in throes of abject poverty to be this couples punching bag.

God bless this beautiful angel baby!!

He has stolen my heart.

Thank you, KayElJay.

“I don’t care if she was a friend of mine,” she cried. “Nobody helped him. I hope she gets life.”

[...]

“He was known to be articulate, playful and loving,” the program read. “Zymere had a smile that would captivate anyone’s heart.”

The Rev. Mark Taylor, who gave the eulogy, said the family had once brought the boy to the church and asked him to pray for Zymere.

“I put my hands on him and he squirmed. I didn’t know anything was wrong. I wonder if I could have done more,” Rev. Taylor said.

“Where was the city of New York?” he added sorrowfully.

Mayor de Blasio on Thursday said the fallout at the embattled Administration for Children’s Services in the wake of the death of a 6-year-old Harlem boy is “just the beginning,” following this week’s suspension of four top agency heads.

The harsh words came a day after ACS confirmed that an assistant commissioner, a borough commissioner and two other agency officials were suspended for 30 days without pay as the investigation into the death of Zymere Perkins continues.

“Suspension is the first step,” said de Blasio

Prosecutors are presenting a homicide case to a grand jury in the beating death of 6-year-old Zymere Perkins last year...

So far, Smith, 42, and Perkins, 26, are only charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor...

Little Zymere became a poster child for dysfunction at the city's Administration for Children's Services... Seven ACS workers have been suspended and demoted for lack of supervision and communication failures. ACS Commissioner Gladys Carrion also resigned.

Ugh. The vile cast of characters in this horrible case is growing. A pillar of society, Nicholas John, currently imprisoned on Riker's Island, decided back in 11/16 that he was the father of little Zymere and wanted "a DNA test to prove he is the biological dad of 6-year-old Zymere Perkins so he can sue the city over the abused boy’s death, according to court papers." He claimed he was "suffering" over the boy's death and, hey, what would help his suffering but a boatload of money??
"
John’s father, who did not want to be named, said his son has two daughters and a son that he knows of. That son’s name is not Zymere, he said." “I have no connection,” John’s father said. “I’ve never seen the child before.”

In 12/16, the DNA results came back and John is NOT the father of Zymere.

The ex-con accused of abusing 6-year-old Zymere Perkins in a filthy Harlem apartment until the helpless boy died whined about his case as prosecutors announced murder charges against him Tuesday.

“I wasn't even in the house!" accused killer Rysheim Smith, handcuffed and slouched in his seat, blurted out to Justice Charles Solomon during a short bail hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Zymere Perkins’ aunts to sue city over child welfare agency's negligence ahead of boy’s beating death

Snip

“The system is fundamentally broken and the city did not properly protect Zymere from abuse and neglect,” said Abe George, attorney for Zymere’s aunts Shameka and Tanisha Perkins.

“The little boy had his entire life ahead of him, but that was unfortunately cut short because of the city’s incompetence.”

(Where were these aunts before Zymere died? Why weren't they advocating for him when he was alive? Why didn't they save him?)

In her opening statement, defense lawyer Heather Smith argued that Zymere “suffered more than anyone should ever have to suffer in their life” but that it was at the hands of his own mother, not Smith.

The attorney called Perkins, “a known liar with every incentive to lie to save her own life.”

Smith faces up to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder, manslaughter and other charges.
