Details of Disappearance
Diede and her boyfriend, Robert Anderson, dropped her son and daughter off at their paternal grandparents' home in Wishek, North Dakota on August 15, 1993. Diede called friends back home and said she was having trouble getting her children back. She and Anderson then stopped by to visit her brother before leaving to go back home. Neither of them has ever been heard from again. The Dodge van they were driving was found abandoned over a hundred miles away at a railroad station parking lot in Aberdeen, South Dakota on August 20, the same day the pair were reported missing. A photo of the van is posted below this case summary.

Anderson and Diede are both from Minnesota. They left all their belongings behind at their home. Diede was in the process of a divorce at the time of her disappearance. Authorities at first assumed the couple had left of their own accord, but Diede's loved ones never believed she would have abandoned her children. Authorities believe she and Anderson were homicide victims. Their cases remain unsolved.

A reward is being offered in the case of two people who went missing 23 years ago while on their way to a North Dakota farm.

A $5,000 reward is available to anyone who can lead authorities to the remains of the victims.

I missed this comment in Namus earlier:

Vin number scratched off however authorities were able to track the vehicle back to Robert Anderson. Vehicle was missing license plates when found abandoned in Aberdeen, SD.

Whoever parked the vehicle deliberately attempted to conceal who's it was. The depot in Aberdeen is now listed as its convention and visitors bureau; who knows what purpose it was serving at that time:

Notice that the depot is right next to the bridge carrying the main route into town from the north (including the Wishek area). You can imagine the driver looking over and immediately seeing it as an easy spot to leave the van.

The area between Wishek and Aberdeen is extremely remote on the map. The search area would be massive.

'I don't think they ran away': Retired homicide detective delves into 1993 missing persons mystery - InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo news, weather and sports (dglobe.com)
''So far in this season of Dakota Spotlight, the podcast has remained laser-focused on the facts surrounding one of North Dakota's most puzzling cold cases — the 1993 disappearance of Kristin Diede and Bob Anderson.

In this latest episode of the investigative true crime podcast, the focus shifts to theories. James Wolner and co-producer Jeremy Fugleberg present four working theories to a retired North Dakota homicide detective, Bob Haas, who is no stranger to loyal fans of the show.
Those theories are:
  • Kristin and Bob ran away forever
  • A random or serial killer
  • Kristin's father, Darvin Goebel
  • Kristin's husband, Clyde Diede''
''Police are tight-lipped about the case, but the duo works with Kristin and Bob's family members, friends and allies to untangle why they went to North Dakota, what exactly took place on Aug. 15, 1993 — the last day they were seen and why the couple has never been found.''
