The former conservative premier of Alberta who had served in several Canadian federal government cabinet posts was among four passengers killed late Thursday in a small-plane crash in a heavily wooded area in southern British Columbia, according to officials.

Jim Prentice, 60, who served as Alberta’s premier for less than a year until May 2015, died in the crash, according to a statement released by the provincial government on behalf of his wife and family.
