Mazatlán resident missing since Tuesday
October 27, 2016

Snipped...
...An American citizen, O'Neil McGean has lived in Mazatlán for the last 10 years...

...He left his home driving a 2014 white Chevrolet Spark with license plates VRK1996-0.

Anyone who might have information regarding McGean’s whereabouts is asked to contact Jorge via his cell phone at 669 154 9305.

A report has been filed with the Attorney General’s office and the U.S. consulate.

...For many years McGean managed the Old Mazatlán Condos in the historic center of the city and two years ago opened Café Playa Sur.

There is a picture of him HERE in front of his Café

ETA: Café Playa Sur on FB: https://www.facebook.com/CafePlayaSur/

(ETA2: interesting read, CPS has been closed (March 3 post "they wanted him out, he was in the way"), looks like maybe he was building a new location (September 28 post)???

That "They want me out I'm in the way" post is scary considering he is missing. It sounds like he was quite a jokester, however, since a few friends asked if it was a joke when the Cafe posted he was missing. I'm going to guess that post means his lease on the current location was up or the building he was leasing was being torn down/sold to investors and he had to build elsewhere. Just a guess.

Body found in Mazatlan, believed to be O'Neil :tears::tears::

http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/body-believed-missing-man/

Oh no. Also from that link:

Unnamed sources said today that three people were arrested in the home where the body was found, and speculated that they were responsible for kidnapping and killing McGean. There has been no report that a ransom was demanded, although his bank cards had been used at various banks in the city.

The quote "They want me out, I'm in the way" was in reference to the property owner wanting to start construction and he was waiting on O'Neil to close down the cafe so he could start.

Suspects arrested and will be going to trial. To add more heartbreak over the situation, his personal assistant/translator is accused of masterminding it all.

Thanks for your join us & for contributing

REALLY sad to hear he trusted someone who wasn't worthy...

Was it someone he knew well? Was the assistant originally from Mexico??

Is the assistant in a photo with O'Neil???

So maybe this article does belong in this thread:

ETA: THANKFULLY his assistant didn't get away with it

That is very tragic, I am sorry for your loss.

Reading around, O'Neil seemed to be a really neat guy. How sad. I'm glad he was found, at least.

Yes, Jorge, who is from Mazatlan, had been his translator/assistant for 10 years. O'Neil thought of him as his son. When he was first arrested we all thought it was a cover-up, an easy solution, but as things came to light, it seems that it was him, unfortunately. And yes, O'Neil was a superb human being. Was always first to help and never had anything negative to say about anyone.

Body was confirmed to be McGean's back in November 2016:

Gov. confirms body is that of O’Neil – The Mazatlan Messenger

Governor Mario López Valdez confirmed last night that the body found buried Friday afternoon in a home in Mazatlan is that of US citizen McGean Patrick O’Neil, who disappeared on October 25. “We sincerely regret the death of this resident of Mazatlan.” said Lopez Valdez.
