GUILTY Mn - Woman Hangs Baby, Flees & Injures Pedestrian, Minneapolis, 18 Nov 2016

None of the news conferences has started yet.

Article from the Star Tribune: http://www.startribune.com/child-survives-hanging-at-minneapolis-day-care-woman-flees/401902155/#1

A 1-year-old girl was hanged in a day care Friday morning by a woman in a residential block of south Minneapolis, and the suspect was threatening to jump from a freeway overpass, according to authorities.

The child has so far survived the incident in the 2700 block of Humboldt Avenue S., according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Catherine Michal.

Also from the Star Tribune linked in the previous comment...
- Child who was harmed was a 16 month old boy.
- Suspect named is Nataliia M. Karia. (not sure if the first name is a typo)
- She is apparently the registered owner and the daycare provider of the daycare named Uptown Daycare.
- The news article refers to the daycare having a FB page - here it is: https://www.facebook.com/Uptown-Daycare-176512532463228/ A couple people have already left negative comments based on the recent incident. The description states that the daycare is licensed and that the daycare provider is a "college educated mom".

I wonder what made her snap.

Minneapolis day care provider pleads guilty to hanging toddler

A Minneapolis day care provider accused of hanging a toddler in her home pleaded guilty to attempted murder, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.

Nataliia Karia, 43, also pleaded guilty to third-degree assault of the 16-month-old boy and two counts of criminal vehicular operation for hitting a pedestrian, another driver and a bicyclist as she fled in her minivan. Evidence in the case will be presented to Hennepin County District Judge Jay Quam on April 27 to determine sentencing, which could be up to 15 years in prison.

Mental health experts debate fate of child care provider who tried to hang boy
A psychiatrist called by prosecutors testified that Nataliia M. Karia’s actions were not with “evil intent or a criminal mind-set,” but she understood what she was doing and could be treated in prison.

However, a psychiatrist and psychologist called by Karia’s defense attorneys said her crime was triggered by depression, stress from overwork and an abusive husband, and it would be better to place her on long-term probation and treat her as an outpatient.

Judge Jay Quam questioned the witnesses and will ultimately decide Karia’s sentence. Sentencing is set for July 16.

I wan't aware of this case until reading about the sentencing imposed on July 16, 2018.
Last February she opted to plead guilty to attempted murder, and abandoned an insanity defense. A good move on her part based on the sentence she received:

Motive is a mystery

The day-care facility is registered to Karia, whose license, state records show, was issued in April 2009 and was set to expire next spring. The home is approved to care for up to 12 children.

Arneson said no motive has been established. “We don’t know what was happening with her,” she said.

Battered wife defense?

The defense argued for no further incarceration. It pointed to several ways that Karia has already been punished including her lengthy jail time, loss of her child-care career, parental time with her son and daughters, and a monetary loss topping $100,000
