A magistrate in Michigan set bond at $1 million Tuesday for a former USA Gymnastics doctor who had been investigated by IndyStar and was arrested on charges of child sexual abuse.

The magistrate said allegations against Larry Nassar, team physician at four Olympic Games, involve "clear predatory behavior."

Nassar was arraigned on three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13. Prosecutors said additional charges are possible.

The suit against Michigan State will also name Nassar, who has already been sued by two ex-gymnasts, one of them an unnamed Olympian.

Eighteen women and girls have filed a federal lawsuit against disgraced former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar, alleging that he sexually assaulted them repeatedly for years during physical examinations.

The plaintiffs alleged a pattern of sexual abuse, disguised as treatment, that began in the late 1990s and continued into 2016. Most of the girls were teenagers at the time of the alleged assaults, although several were as young as 9.

Nassar, 53, is already facing state and federal criminal charges, including sexual assault with a person under 13 and possession of child *advertiser censored*.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of court cases targeting Nassar. More than 65 women have filed lawsuits or police complaints of sexual assault against him, including former U.S. gymnastics national team members. He also faces criminal charges for sexual abuse and child *advertiser censored*.

[...]

Nassar was dismissed by USA Gymnastics in the summer of 2015 after gymnasts told officials with the sport's governing body about his alleged behavior during medical exams, but he continued to treat patients in and around Lansing, Michigan, for more than a year thereafter even though his conduct was, at the time, under the scrutiny of the FBI.

[...]

In addition to Nassar, Michigan State University, Twistars and USA Gymnastics are all named as defendants in the lawsuit, which says that all three institutions should have stopped Nassar's alleged behavior years before they finally severed ties with him.

In November, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who took over the investigation, filed charges against Nassar, alleging that he molested a family friend for years, starting when she was 6 years old.

Then, last month, federal prosecutors charged Nassar with possession of child *advertiser censored*, and an FBI agent testified that tens of thousands of images were found on disks and drives discovered in a trash can outside his house and inside his home.

Larry Nassar sounds like another Jerry Sandusky. :furious:

Since the Indianapolis Star first reported the stories of two accusers, Nassar has been charged with molesting a family friend on visits to his home for years, starting when she was 6 years old, and he was also hit with federal child-*advertiser censored* charges linked to 37,000 images allegedly found on his computer equipment.

Hours before Simon's statement, an anonymous woman filed a motion in federal court in Michigan seeking to join an existing lawsuit there — pointing out, as others also have, that Michigan State investigated Nassar after a patient complaint in 2014.[

Former U.S. Gymnasts Say They Were Sexually Abused by Team Doctor
Three former members of the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team say they were sexually abused by the longtime doctor for the sport’s governing body.

On CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday, Jamie Dantzscher, Jeannette Antolin and Jessica Howard alleged that Dr. Larry Nassar began abusing them as teenagers in the 1990s. In each case, the women say Nassar told them that he was performing medical procedures to improve their health and address their medical problems. As part of this, the women said, Nassar inserted ungloved fingers in their vagina or rectum on repeated occasions and for lengthy periods of time.

Good grief. What a mess. That doctor is disgusting and despicable. Yet he must have been very good at his job and highly qualified as a physician to be working in such a high profile and coveted capacity. I'm sure there are countless doctors that would love to have that job, but this idiot threw it all away because it all came down to the fact that he's just an extremely smart pig - just not smart enough to get away with it.

I can't help but think that so many people would never be sexually assaulted by anyone if only there were open communications within the gymnastics world like the article pointed out. Of course, that break down is probably the same within every sport.

Agreed. Those are the types of jobs sexual predators covet, where they are given a high level of responsibility and trust.

I don't think he was that smart, but knew how to manipulate children as do most predators. He deceived the girls into thinking their cooperation with his "exams" was necessary for their success in competition. These girls put a lot of work into honing their talent to reach the Olympics, and their parents invested a lot of money to get them there. They did not want to disappoint, so they trusted the adults around them.

MASON - Former Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar was formally arraigned Thursday on 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and 14 lesser included alternative charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

[...]

Nassar, wearing an orange jumpsuit, carried a manila envelope and Bible into the courtroom.

Also Thursday, another plaintiff was added to a civil lawsuit against Nassar; Michigan State University, where Nassar worked; USA Gymnastics; and Gedderts' Twistars, a gymnastics club in the Lansing, Mich., area. She is the 41st plaintiff in the lawsuit. She is the 46th plaintiff overall in civil lawsuits against Nassar.

“This guy is disgusting,” Michigan attorney general Bill Schuette said at a news conference. “This guy is despicable. He is a monster.”

Schuette said more than 80 victims have come forward to Michigan State University police. They did so after an IndyStar story last September detailing allegations against Nassar from a Louisville woman, Rachael Denhollander, and an unnamed plaintiff in a civil lawsuit against Nassar.

I agree 100%

I am pretty sure I threw up in my mouth as I read through each article.
This parasite has no soul.
He has committed the ultimate betrayal IMO.
I haven't been this pissed off in a VERY long time!
These women are courageous & extremely strong for speaking out❤

Unfortunately, I've been around long enough to know there is going to be MUCH more unfolding here in Michigan.
Having said that, I do hope all who were violated by this perverted molester will get justice and he will never be free again.

Editorial: MSU must redouble scrutiny of sexual abuse

The Detroit News 11:08 p.m. ET Feb. 23, 2017

High-brow credentials and impressive titles don’t give anyone the right to inappropriately touch vulnerable young women. Sadly, it appears Michigan State University gymnasts were lulled into trusting an alleged sexual predator because he bore the imprimatur of the college.

That makes MSU complicit, intentionally or not, in the scandal now engulfing its former gymnastics medical trainer, who has been charged with sexual assault for abusing the young athletes who were sent to him for treatment. The university had a responsibility to adhere to strict protocol and oversight aimed at preventing abuse of student-athletes. And it appears MSU failed at these...

From what I have been reading, he convinced them that was he was doing to them was "treatment." Gymnastics is the kind of sport that could lead to a lot of injuries. So he had easy access to numerous young girls.

Sick.
Legit treatment or not, IMO, that is NOT what was on his mind! He used no gloves, didn't explain what he was going to do, asked third parties to leave the room, and asked gymnasts to NOT tell their parents because they wouldn't understand.
" allegedly " of course.

I wonder if the United States Olympic Committee knew about this and when.

MSU Abuse Scandal: Coach Had Gymnasts Sign Card for Dr. Larry Nassar

by Stephanie Gosk, Kristen Powers and Tracy

One afternoon this past autumn, Michigan State University gymnastics coach Kathie Klages asked her young athletes to sign a card to the team doctor, Larry Nassar.

Nassar wasn't recuperating from an illness or celebrating a milestone. Instead, he had been publicly accused of molesting former patients and was the target of a fast-growing police investigation.

"She said, 'You don't have to sign this if you don't want to, but it's for Larry and it would be appreciated if we could let him know that we're thinking about him,'" said gymnast Lindsey Lemke, 21, who recalls that some team members did sign...
