Case History:
Unknown white female was found in a 55 gallon oil drum. The drum was floating in Newtown Creek at North Henry street, and found by sanitation workers.

Lorraine Orvieto, age twenty-eight, was strangled by Rifkin a few days before Christmas 1991, jammed in a 55-gallon oil drum and dropped into Coney Island Creek, where her body would remain undiscovered for over six months. The oil drum was a new kink with Rifkin, used at least four times by his count.

A Jane Doe victim, thus entombed, was dredged from Newtown Creek, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, on May 13, 1992.

Maryann Holloman, age 39, was retrieved from Coney Island Creek in her oil drum on July 9, two days before passers-by found the skeletal remains of Lorraine Orvieto nearby. There was another oil drum victim, Joel insists, although he doesnt know her name and cant recall exactly when he dropped her body in the Harlem River.

A bit more on this Jane Doe:

Rifkin’s ninth victim, ironically, surfaced before numbers seven and eight. He was vague on the details in later confessions, unable to recall the woman’s name, if he had ever known it.

He remembered her tattoos, a pickup in Manhattan, and the way she fought for life when he began to strangle her. She followed Mary Holloman, sometime that winter, dismembered remains consigned to the last of Rifkin’s oil drums. He dropped her into Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek, where she was spotted floating with the current, foot protruding from the rusty barrel, on May 13, 1992.

The cocaine in her system prompted detectives to brand her a drug “mule,” killed accidentally by the rupture of drug-filled condoms in her stomach. Police learned their mistake a year later, when Rifkin confessed to her slaying, but “number nine” remains anonymous, the last Jane Doe.

Mary Holloman was picked up by Rifkin on January 2, 1992, so victim after her (ninth - our Jane Doe) in the same winter was picked up probably between Jan 3 to March 1992.

So is this the Only remaining Rilfkin victim that has not been Identified and Julie Blackbird is the only victim whose remains have never been found?

the link below is older still had not identified Susie as Heidi Balch but it has a list of the victims

Reading this makes me wonder if the height on this Jane Doe is correct..she is listed at 5'7

3 More Victims of Serial Killer Are Identified
The police said that Lorraine Orvieto was petite, like many of the other victims, just under 5 feet tall and about 100 pounds. And as with the others whom Mr. Rifkin is accused of killing, a memento found in his room -- in this case, a driver's license -- helped police to discover the apparent connection to Ms. Ovierto's death.

oh I am a bit confused.. Because I thought this Newtown Creek UID was Rifkins Victim #6.. and that it was only her that needed a name and Blackbird that needed remains to be found..
But now I read about another Oil Drum Girl dropped in the Harlem River.. so is she the Jane Doe victim #6? Did he ever describe that woman?o_O I think I am lost here.

There were 4 victims in 4 different barrels (his victims number 6 to 9). Number 6 - he confessed but barrel was not located, hence also no identification. I wonder if she might have surfaced somewhere else. Number 7 was Lorraine Orvieto, number 8 Mary Ann Holloman and number 9 this Newtown Creek Jane Doe.

Description of victim number 6 who was not located -

Rifkin could not recall the name of “number six,” murdered a few days shy of Christmas 1991. He picked her up on West 46th Street in Manhattan and strangled her in his car during oral sex, describing the event as “very quick.” Afterward, he drove back to Long Island with the body slumped beside him, concealing her under a tarp at his rented workplace. Next, he drove to a recycling plant in Westbury, where he had once worked part-time, and helped himself to a 55-gallon oil drum. There was ample room for Jane Doe in the barrel, safely hidden for their ride to the South Bronx, where Rifkin found a district rife with junkyards and rolled her into the East River. About to leave, he was confronted by patrolmen who accused him of illegal dumping, but Joel persuaded them he was collecting junk instead. They let him go with a warning.

thank you AlKa for clarifying that! I got confused! Ha!
Oh that is so sad he gave location where he picked her up and dropped her off but nothing for possible identification other than she was in a drum. No hair color or if she was white or Hispanic or what. That is pretty sad this poor woman is likely lost forever!!
I had the same thoughts maybe she resurfaced out of the drum someplace else especially since he mentions that she had ample room in the drum. She could have floated out and ended up anywhere. I found skeletal remains and also found a torso that popped up around that time. I will go find the links to post here.

Just going to throw this mp in. She is from CA but would fit in the stats and other circumstances:Drug-user and tattoos.
Megan Carney, 23 years, missing since Dec 1, 1991.
The Doe Network: Case File 1789DFCA
Oh wow Fits the timeline the hair color and just off 1 inch for the height. And it's enough time to get to NY. The body in the drum seemed very decomposed so if she had tattoos I don't think they would be able to be seen?

Bumping for the lady in the oil drum.

Number 6 - he confessed but barrel was not located, hence also no identification. I wonder if she might have surfaced somewhere else. So does this woman could have just floated out into the river. So I am assuming this Woman went missing Before December 1991.

Number 7 - was Lorraine Orvieto,
Suffolk police are asking the public's help in finding a missing woman who has psychiatric problems and is in need of medical attention.
Lorraine Orvieto, 29, also known as "Marie," was last seen Dec. 20, 1991, when she was living at the Kings Park Psychiatric Group Home in Bay Shore.
Orvieto is a 4-foot-11 white woman who weighs 100 pounds. She has long, straight, light brown hair. Rifkin stuffed her into an oil drum, drove her body to Brooklyn and dropped it into Coney Island Creek. She was found by a fisherman on July 11, 1992, two months before her family filed a missing persons report.

Number 8 - Mary Ann Holloman
on January 2, 1992, Rifkin was at it again, cruising around looking for a target when he chanced upon a 39-year-old Mary Ann Holloman, who would be his oldest victim.

Number 9 - this Newtown Creek Jane Doe. body was discovered when someone noticed a foot sticking out from a rusty barrel in Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek on May 13, 1992. This was Rifkin’s ninth victim, whom he had killed After Holloman, but her body surfaced prior to Holloman’s and Orvieto’s did.

At the time of his confessional statement, Rifkin could not remember the woman’s name or whether or not he knew her though he did recall that she had tattoos on her, that he had picked her in Manhattan and that she had fought very hard for her life when he strangled her to death.
Her body was packed in the last of the oil drums that Rifkin had and was dropped into Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek.

A Killer Without A Conscience

I found this article time line it’s good w photos but
I think this link has some discrepancies when it comes to the drums.

Now my question here is ...he took something that belonged to each woman that he killed. Did he take anything from the Newton Creek lady and Number 6 lady?

This is from the article above... I think there is some confusion with the drums.. only one drum was dropped off at Newton Creek right? I think at this point iam confusing myself omg hahaha!

Yun Lee, 31:
In September of 1991, Rifkin picked up Yun Lee, a prostitute he had been with before. He failed to perform and struck her on impulse, strangling her to death. She was dropped into the East River. Found on September 23rd.

"Number 6",
Never identified: According to Rifkin, in July 1992 he murdered unidentified victim #1. They call her the “Jane Doe” victim. Again, Rifkin picked up her along the side of the road, slept with her, and then strangled her around the neck. Her body was placed in an oil drum and dumped into Netown Creek. Her remains were never recovered.

Lorraine Orvieto, 28:
On 12-26-1991 Lorraine Orvieto (HF, 28) was strangled by Rifkin. Her body was placed in an oil drum and thrown into Coney Island Creek to hide the evidence. Her body was recovered 6 months later.

Mary Ann Holloman, 39:
On 1-02-1992 32 Rifkin found Mary-Ann Holloman (WF, 39) walking along the street late one night and picked her up. He then strangled her and placed her body in an oil drum. In July 1992 Holloman’s body found in Coney Island Creek, the same location as Lorraine Orvieto. Her body was recovered 2 days before Orvieto’s.

"Number 9",
Identity remains anonymous: July 1992 No-Name #1, they call her the “Jane Doe” victim.” Again, Rifkin picked up her along the side of the road, slept with her, and then strangled her around the neck. Her body was placed in an oil drum and dumped into Newtown Creek.

1992 No-Name #2 was picked up by Rifkin. He had sex with her, and then strangled her. He placed her body in an oil drum and dumped it into the Harlem River.

Hm, the author of the blog post you are quoting seem to mix up Jane Doe #6 and Jane Doe #9's information. Most sources seem to state that Rifkin dumped Jane Doe #6 into either East River or Harlem River from South Bronx, while Jane Doe #9 was dumped into Newtown Creek from Brooklyn.
