Howard County is mourning the loss of a teenage girl, shot and killed in her own bedroom early Sunday morning. Police are saying the suspected shooter, a 15-year old boy, shot her mother, the girl, and then himself.

[...]

Police say the suspect, a 15-year-old boy from Ellicott City, remains at University of Maryland Shock Trauma in critical condition. Police say it is unclear if the suspect had any connection to Charlotte or her mother, or how he got inside the house.

Oh, no, ---it is so hard to believe he did not know the girl.

But wouldn't her friends know about him? I am so confused.

Since Charlotte and the suspect were the same age, I'm wondering if they went to the same school. Maybe she didn't know him well, but he had a crush on her and she brushed him off. JMO

I also wonder how he entered the house. Climbed in through window? If so, I wonder if he'd been surveiling the home to discover the location of her bedroom and her family's patterns. JMO

ETA: If they didn't attend the same school, it could be he lived in the neighborhood and had an unhealthy crush on her ... or could have planned to rob the home and just happened to find Charlotte's bedroom window open. At 15, I assume the sus didn't drive so at that hour he would have to live within walking distance. JMO

The teen that shot Charlotte and her mother has died. The teen lived in the same neighborhood as Charlotte's family. Since the boy is a suspect in at least 2 burglaries in their neighborhood in previous weeks, I wonder if Charlotte walked in on him burglarizing her room. JMO.

TY for the update, DtP. Sad that now we won't learn any details about what really happened.

Police say it happened around 2 a.m. New Year’s Day at the 4800 block of Knoll Glen Road in Ellicott City. Police say they believe the mother heard a scuffle in her teenage daughter’s bedroom.

Considering the hour it happened, IMO the intruder likely entered the house through Charlotte's BR window, awakening her.

He might have gotten in while her parents were out of the house and picking her up. IMO, she surprised him while he was looking around her room.

"Police have learned that Charlotte’s parents left their house in the 4800 block of Knoll Glen Drive on New Year’s Eve to pick her up from a party. They returned home and a short time later, around 2 a.m., Suzanne Zaremba heard a scuffle in her daughter’s bedroom. She entered the room and found Charlotte struggling with a masked suspect."

“At this time we have no idea at how the suspect gained entry into the home. The suspect is dead, Charlotte is dead. We can’t ask them the questions that both you and we want to know. At this time, we don’t see any link between the suspect and the victims,” said Sherry Llewellyn, Howard County Police spokesperson."
