Herrera initially reported the little girl had been attacked by dogs.

County Sheriff Javier Salazar in a press conference said the young girl was found with life-threatening wounds consistent with “brutal” sexual assault as well as multiple stab wounds.

“This is one of those cases, I’ll be honest with you, it’s something that I haven’t even seen the pictures, I don’t want to see the pictures,” Salazar said during the news conference.

“I’ve got seasoned detectives and emergency room personnel that have all agreed that this is one of the worst cases they’ve seen,” Salazar said during his first news conference since being sworn in as sheriff.

But when the little girl was examined, she had life threatening injuries consistent with sexual assault. They included stab wounds on her upper body and private parts that were “non-accidental.”

This poor babygirl I have so much respect for the LEOs EMTs and medical caregivers who dealt with this case. To be haunted by cases such as this. To go back out there and keep seeing the horrific things humans do to one another. SMH

Sounds like CPS dropped the ball ... once again. How long does it take to investigate child abuse?!

These two monsters thought they could cover up their violent sexual assault of the baby by stabbing her in her privates and saying the dog did it! Thank goodness for stupid criminals.

Unfortunately, though, the baby was not removed from the custody of those brutal adults before this could happen. Thankful the girl is alive, but what she will have to endure in surgeries.... She will likely have health problems the rest of her life.

The exact relationship of Herrara to the child is probably being kept vague for the protection of the minor child vicim's privacy. Given the previous CPS investigation involving this same woman and child we can all guess why.

I am removing some posts that get specific about it because I want to protect this little one's privacy as much as is possible. Thanks for understanding.
