On November 26, 2013, the Regina Police Service received a report that a male, Ronald Matthew KAY, was recently missing. Police searched for Ronald KAY, who was 32 at the time of his disappearance, but could not locate him. KAY was listed as one of Regina’s long-term missing persons on both the Regina Police Service website and the Missing Persons page of the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police. Recent, renewed investigation into this case uncovered information that KAY’s disappearance was due to homicide.

Ronald KAY’s remains are not recovered, and remain missing.

Charged with second-degree murder are Trevor Evan Asapace, 29, and Bill Leonard Favel, 38, and Lester Alvin Favel, 21. It’s alleged the homicide occurred between Nov. 25 and 26, 2013, the latter being the day Kay was reported missing.

The accused were remanded in custody to return to court Jan. 16.

On Wednesday morning he pled guilty to manslaughter.

Sentencing took place Wednesday afternoon, with the Judge agreeing to impose the 7½-year sentence jointly requested by Crown and defence counsel. After receiving credit for remand, Favel was left with four years, 9½ months to serve.

The 23-year-old has been sentenced to seven and a half years in jail, minus time served. Since he’s already been in custody since January 2017, that will work out to another four years, nine months, and 15 days behind bars.

He will also have to submit a DNA sample, pay a victim surcharge of $200 and will be subject to prohibitions upon release.
