Awaiting LE / Law Enforcement's Next Move.
 
I understand why he is arrested and charged, intellectually. But my heart hopes he does no prison time.
He is likely very proud and doesn't want his wife to be on Nursing Home Medicaid. But he will have to or the financial stress will take him out before his wife passes. Such complicated situations with no easy solutions for anyone. God bless them.
 
My father was wracked with HORRIBLE pain. He was skin and bones, as cancer had spread into his bones and his glands and his organs. The morphine didn't even stop the pain, as he would moan and groan in his sleep.... I am admitting that a few loving family members conspired with a kind hospice worker, to overload his morphine schedule, and allow him to BE FREE. It was his idea when he was just starting to be really sick. He made us promise to release him when it got to the end. :rose:

This is fricken sick. Lancaster County police and DA are ridiculous. Don't know how they sleep at night. $300,000 bail? Cause he's a flight risk?

I suspect my brother helped my little sister with extra morphine in the end, when she was in hospice. I hope he did. She had organ failure after years of an eating disorder. She was there for over a month, when we expected to lose her in a matter of days.

I hope I can quietly manage it myself one day if necessary, only so as not to put it on someone else. I think it is a worse offense to allow a loved one longer suffering.
 
Manor Township man pleads guilty to aiding his wife's January suicide

Philip M. Benight, 61, of the 200 block of Oak Road, will be sentenced on the second-degree felony charge of aiding suicide within 90 days of Friday's hearing, according to presiding Judge Howard Knisely.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

“Mr. Benight understands what happened. He is willing to accept responsibility for it," his attorney Alan Goldberg said following the hearing.

“As to the status of the law and the status of reality, I think there is a big difference between the two and what the average person might feel they would do for their own, but the law is the law and the judge has to abide by the law," Goldberg said of the case.

Leslie White, who said she was Rebecca’s best friend for more than 50 years, said the couple was “completely devoted to each other, and to each other’s welfare.”

Her son, John Golden, said Rebecca Benight wanted to end her life.

He remembers her asking him if he brought a gun when he visited her at the home, he said. “Too bad,” he said she responded, when he told her he had not.
