the body found was meagan's.

"BAIRD, Texas -- The body found at T&P Lake in Baird around noon Friday has been positively identified as missing Abilene mother Meagan Dearman.

A friend of the Dearman family told KTXS the family confirmed that Meagan's body was found at T&P Lake.

While Abilene police have actively been searching for the 31-year-old Dearman, a resident nearby reportedly discovered her body at the lake."

Court documents say one of Bennett's acquaintances claimed Bennett "told her he go into a fight with Megan Dearman and hurt her bad."

A confidential informant then called police and said, "Justin Bennett had told them that he did kill Meagan Dearman and buried her body at a lake," according to the documents.

Another one of Bennett's acquaintances told detectives Dearman let Bennett use her vehicle the day she went missing, and when detectives searched her vehicle, they found blood, the documents state.

The documents say one informant told police Bennett confessed to strangling Dearman, and a medical examiner confirmed this information.

The Abilene man accused of killing his girlfriend and dumping her body at a lake will now be tried in Callahan County.

A Callahan County grand jury indicted Justin Bennett, 32, Wednesday for the murder of Megan Dearman.

Jennifer Herod, who’s accused of helping Bennett dump the body, is charged with tampering with evidence. She was supposed to have a bond reduction hearing Thursday. But that was canceled. A new date has not been set.

Abilene murder victim's family: Suspect shouldn't have chance to get out

"KTXS reached out to Callahan County District Attorney Shane Deel to find out why the case is now being tried there instead of Taylor County. His office told us investigators initially believed the crime occurred in Taylor County. But there is not sufficient evidence to prove that. So they’re moving the trial to Callahan County since that’s where the body was found."

Police investigating 3rd suspect in murder of Abilene mom
According to a search warrant obtained by KTXS, four witnesses contacted police about a second woman who they say bragged about helping kill Dearman. Police said the witnesses provided information that has not been made public.

Police filed a search warrant for her records in November. According to the warrant, her phone number showed up in Bennett and Herod’s call logs on the day or her murder.

A medical examiner took the stand during the trial and confirmed the cause of death for victim Megan Dearman and also stated Dearman had methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system when she was killed in January of 2017.

Trial Day 3: Abilene mother's clothing found burned at north side home
Day Three of an ongoing murder trial revealed an Abilene mother's clothing was found burned at a north side home.

Abilene man sentenced to 70 years in prison for January 2017 homicide
An Abilene man was sentenced on Friday to 70 years in prison after he was found guilty in the January 2017 homicide of Meagan Dearman.

Justin Bennett, 34, was sentenced by the Callahan County jury Friday morning, one day after the same 12 found he was responsible for Dearman's death, the Callahan County District Clerk's office said.

Murder trial: Victim's family says justice has not been fully served
Dearman's cousin, April Sanchez, said that she feels some sense of relief from the guilty verdict and subsequent sentencing of Bennett.

"We definitely wanted to hear 99 or life, but we don’t get to make that decision, unfortunately," Sanchez said.

Dearman's family said that Herod is just as guilty as Bennett is for the crime and that justice will not be fully served until she is convicted for Dearman's murder.

"There was testimony tying her to the murder as well, and she needs to be punished for what she did," family friend Lucy Neitzler said.

Jennifer Herod's court case is pending.
